John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.

I also expect IA to be close, as it was in 2000 and 2004. McCain cannot win it with today’s poll numbers, but a 3-4 swing in his direction would change everything.

RE: “Nobody who is “otherwise smart” is supporting Obama. Obama supporters are either enemies of America or WILLFULLY IGNORANT, the type who don’t want anyone confusing them with facts. Nobody who votes for Obama deserves to be called smart, a smart person who cannot bring himself to vote for McCain would stay home or vote third party.”

I totally agree with your post, above. I know many otherwise “smart” people who fall into the “willfully ignorant” category; insist on voting Dem/radical left no matter the consequences. In CA this is extremely common. These people turn a totally blind eye towards the truth about the likes of Obama, et al. There appears to be NO hope for these people.

I’m POSITIVE they would never intentionally announce a pull-out on the day of the ‘Cuda debate - BUT - “unnamed sources” certainly COULD put this out there to deflect attention away from the VP debate.

I bet this “rumor” is fact. And, no, I am not a troll nor am Obama supporter - wife and I are HUGE supporters, especially after he picked Palin.

Trying to take away some of Palin's effect, eh? Probably true. IF the rumor is true, it's likely he's just planning on spending the cash more wisely. No point wasting it on a state that won't help him.

The dems have turned it into a 3rd world economy and the vooters keep putting them back in. Michigan gets what it deserves, but the rest of us are screwed.

McCain must spend more money in Florida than he has.

Why? About a month ago I saw a report where Obama had spent $5 million in Florida while McCain didn't spend a cent. He didn't need to. He was leading and continues to lead in the Florida polls. Since then Obama and the media have made a huge push on Florida. So McCain has spent some money recently (I don't know exact figures). So? Sounds like smart use of his money to me.

Excuse my wild (and possibly overoptimistic) theorizing here, but it might be a ploy to get Obama out of this state. Seriously. Here in Grand Rapids, you can’t watch any broadcast network without seeing at least two Obama ads EACH FREAKIN’ AD BREAK. Have Obama stop spending as much here, hammer him nationally, and then flood the state in the last few weeks. If the Obama people run 3 ads for every one McCain ad until election day, they won’t get any advantage- but a blitz in the last week could work.

Just a thought.

Yep, in 2004 Bush carred Iowa by a whopping 0.67% In 2000, he lost Iowa by 0.31%. It is a very winnable state for McCain if the ethanol issue doesn’t hurt him too much and he gains a few points nationally in the polls. I don’t put much stock in Obama’s ground game in Iowa because the GOP operation (which the RNC runs, not the McCain campaign) is not exactly chopped liver.

McCain could be railing against the "Obama-Bush Bailout," pointing out Democrat and Obama corruption, promising to clean up this mess without burdening the taxpayers, and rising in the polls. But nooooooo... he is just holding fast to his bipartisan shtick that is absolutely killing him.

i wish he would've. I can't understand ANY candidate deliberately voting for something that I've read 75-90% of the American people are against. Our 'representatives' certainly shouldn't be voting for it either.

What a time for the McCain campaign (and I use the term loosely) to announce this negative news just when Sarah Palin has to ride into the enemy camp tonight and do her best.

How demorallizing to her! What a psychological boost to Joe Bidet.

Now I KNOW I'm living in an alternate universe.

They DIDN'T announce anything. Are we so dumbed down from public education that even here we think that everything written/posted has to be true?

RE: “Hope that McCAIN is waiting the home stretch to punch for KO with the big stuff on OUSSABAMA(WRIGHT FANNY FREDDY:

YEP!!! We have a full month to go here — we know McCain is capable of unloading on the other side, as is Palin. If they can agree to disregard the advice of some of their undoubtedly nervous and namby-pamby handlers, and be themselves on the trail, some BIG changes will take place in these latest polls.

GO McCain/Palin November 4!!!

There is an article posted on FR that his campaign bus is going to Michigan and his brother will be campaigning in stead of Mccain for now....

Politico jumping to conclusions? Gee, would that be possible? Think folks!

“That is a very bad sign.”

Not really. McCain winning Michigan would have totally crushed Obama. But it isn’t needed to defeat Obama.

McCain simply has to win the same states that Bush won in 2004.
