He’s written more standards (tunes everyone knows) than any other American songwriter of his generation. I'm not sure how you qualify that, but ok. My reponse is that that's problem the main reason why I hate taking the elevator and going to the dentist so much.

A lot of great pop music gets played in muzak arrangements. So what? Joel has always been a Broadway/ Tin Pan Alley style tunesmith masquerading as a Rocker. To claim he has no musical talent is not be very knowledgable about what musical talent is. Even critics who don’t like him concede that he was a natural.
