Bailout Defeat Due To Loss Of Political Credibility
Yahoo News ^ | 9-30-08 | Michael Scherer

There was a lack of trust, a loss of confidence, a popular revolt.

Nearly every major political leader in the U.S. supported the $700 billion financial-bailout bill. The President. The Vice President. The Treasury Secretary. The Chairman of the Federal Reserve. The Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Democratic and Republican nominees for President. The Democratic and Republican leadership of the House and Senate. All of them said the same thing: vote yes.

But a majority of those politicians anointed by the Constitution to reflect the will of the people voted no. This is a remarkable event, the culmination of a historic sense of betrayal that Americans have long felt for their representatives in Washington. The nation's credit crisis on Monday exposed a much deeper and more fundamental problem: a crisis of political credibility that now threatens to harm our nation further, should the markets freeze up and more companies begin to fail, as many experts predict.

The problem has been growing for years. Roughly 28% of Americans approve of President Bush. Roughly 18% of Americans approve of Congress. Now those low numbers and majority of bad feelings have manifested themselves in the starkest of terms.

Been talking about TERM LIMITS for years.......ever since I voted for TERM LIMITS in CALIF...and then got over turned by the 9th C. Court....

It's not perfect.....by any means. But it's the only way ....IMO...to take back control of our government.

We already term limit the POTUS...it's beyond time to TERM LIMIT the rest of them.

I'm thinking it's a habit that should be encouraged vigorously.

By force if necessary.

“Our elected representatives obeyed the will of their constituents”
Actually that sounds more like a Democracy to me. I think a Republic is more like a wise and informed person acting on behalf of their constituency.

Term Limits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12 years in the Senate (2 terms)
12 years in the House (6 terms)
To be eligible to return to the Senate, you must sit out 1 term (6 years)
To be eligible to return to the House, you must sit out 3 terms (6 years)
If you want to be a career politician go be governor, mayor or county commissioner. See what its like to be governed !

Bernanke is an incorruptible genius working entirely for the public good. And nobody here will listen to him, because being educated and moderately well off is enough to make him their nefarious Enemy (tm). As for Paulson, who shoots from the hip at times and can make mistakes - largely listening to pressure from pols - why he's rich and successful, he just has to be the Witch King, no one would ever listen to him.

Also, name anything Bush has ever done that was corrupt. Occasionally poor judgment sure, but ill will or lack of earnest patriotism? Not a drop of it. So literally two thirds of humanity has done nothing but hurl exrement at his for 5 straight years.

I think the populace don't appreciate just what ungrateful jackasses they are themselves...

Come not between the banker and his purchase. Lest when the time comes for you, he not force you into bankruptcy, but carry you away alive into the coils of receivorship, where your assets will be stripped from you and auctioned off, and your unpaid liabilities left, naked, before the howling short sellers.

The members in the House of Representatives that voted for this GARBAGE should be read their Miranda rights, and so should their willing accomplices in the Drive-By-Media.

This is the MOB, the COLLECTIVE. Give us $700,000,000,000 of your future, your kids future, your grandkids future and WE WILL PROTECT you FROM US.

Who will protect us from our protectors?
