Too late to elect Newt Gingrich?

Posted on 09/29/2008 7:18:53 PM PDT by NoobRep

Gingrich's four-point plan includes: (1) suspending immediately mark to market provisions (the accounting practice of valuing a financial position in an investment at its current market price) in the hopes of stopping the downward spiral in asset values and eventually replacing it with a three year rolling average; (2) repealing immediately Sarbanes-Oxley, the 2002 accounting law Gingrich described as "an enormous drag on small business"; (3) setting the capital gains tax rate at zero "matching the Chinese and Singapore" (to encourage private capital to flood into the market picking up properties without the taxpayers being at risk); and (4) passing an "extraordinarily powerful" energy bill ("to return $500 billion a year to the American economy that are currently going overseas").

Oh how smart do you think he is when he starts spewing his usual nonsense about “Global Warming”?

The mark-market change sounds fantastic!
No, the Mark to Market change sounds obvious.
It's in the House GOP version.
It is mindboggling that neither that nor ending Sarbanes-Oxley was in the Pelosi bill.
These things are a no-brainer, just like Nancy.

Am I hallucinating, or didn’t Newt admit over the weekend he would vote for the bill?

no. i don’t have a tv.

i have digital tv.

um...you know, i don’t disagree with what you posted that newt said.

i do object for these reasons:

1. we have a republican presidential candidate right now and a very excellent vice presidential candidate.

2. the democrat media castrated newt in the ‘90s.

You are invited to enlighten me on just where and how Newt is wrong in his arguments regarding the financial crisis and how to deal with same.

Yes, the marriages, the draft dodging, the bizarre divorce behavior probably make the oval office unattainable. That doesn’t mean he could not go into the cabinet somewhere.

I just wrote a nasty email to my REPUBLICAN representative who voted FOR the bailout.

Newt had good things to say about McCain.

Should stick to something. His flip flopping around is unseemly.

Kick Paulson out and replace him with Newt!

I’ll second that.

You can elect Newt all you want to anything you want. Few others will, however.

Newt had the keys to the kingdom in 1994. First Republican majority in the senate in 40 years. Then he went on to do absolutely nothing with it. Whatever happened to the much-ballyhooed "Contract With America?"

My theory is that Newt got caught up in being a celebrity and doing all the yakking head shows on Sunday mornings.

We could use another Ronald Reagan right about now.

“An idea man is what the GOP and the country desperately needs right now.”

There is a void in that respect that needs to be filled.

Can anyone link me to the NY Times article that Newt was referring to and the one Greta was waving around?

Newt the Quitter?

You want Newt, the guy who took his constituents’ votes, and their campaign money, in his last election and then resigned as soon as he was elected?

THAT Newt?
What do you suppose he’d do if the going got a little tough on him again?
Prolly go cheat on his wife again...

As smart as Juan McCain when he too goes off about "climate change."
