The cable news networks are standing by for a press conference by House Republicans on the bailout bill. It should start some time after 6:30 p.m. EDT.
The Billionaire Bailout Bill of 2008. They knew about Pearl Harbor and did nothing. Sound damning?
If this is a Pearl Harbor equivalent of a crisis, and the Dems and their cronies instigated it and fiddled while Rome burned/while Pearl Harbor was bombed (with their foreknowledge), I would insist on trials as part of the "bailout." Otherwise, their is no disincentive to future injustice.
If the market tanks, does it not signify a return to pricing things at what they are actually worth, rather than what speculators pumped them up to be?
I am confused as to what we are saving here, if the private sector itself knows these debts are too toxic to touch.
MSNBC reporter says an education session going on in house meeting, answering questions etc...no feel for who will/how many will support it.
Bad ideas, as in evolution, MUST fail or they bring death of the entire system.
No bailout. Just arrests and prosecutions.
If it succeeds (which it will not long term) the Dems simply claim all the credit and the media goes along with it. If it fails, the Dems say it was all Bushs idea and McCain was in the bag to help push it though and the media supports them in that as well. The best possible outcome is for the Republicans to do the right thing and vote against the bill as a block.
point
A cynical person might speculate that the Democrats want the bill to fail and the GOP to be blamed for it.
Amen!
Why politicians don’t get it I’ll never know because it seems so simple!
My husband is saying the same thing...
Paulson-Pelosi bill delivered late to Republicans, Republicans being pressured to vote for it according to John Batchelor on wabcradio.
The day the music died.
I started singin,
Bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, thisll be the day that I die.
Thisll be the day that I die.
Now for ten years weve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin stone,
But thats not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,
Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.
We were singing,
Bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, thisll be the day that I die.
Thisll be the day that I die.
Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
We started singing,
Bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, thisll be the day that I die.
Thisll be the day that I die.
Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devils only friend.
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satans spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singing,
Bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, thisll be the day that I die.
Thisll be the day that I die.
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where Id heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldnt play.
And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.
And they were singing,
Bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
Singin, thisll be the day that I die.
Thisll be the day that I die.
Anyone else having problems with the page reloading?
And now that I think about it, is this bill if passed even constitutional?
If passed could someone get an injunction, take this to court?
Sounds like Sheehan and her ex.
Obama grabbing some credit too
Barack Obama is trying to nab his piece of the credit on the bailout plan just hours after congressional negotiators signed off on the historic deal.
Obama, appearing on Face the Nation, first blamed “eight years of failed economic policy” for the financial crisis. Then he said the congressional negotiators included his core principles in the bailout deal, including taxpayer protection, foreclosure mitigation and a crackdown on CEO pay.
“For two weeks I was on the phone every day with Secretary Paulson and congressional leaders,” Obama said.
As for the deal that came out in the wee hours Sunday morning, the changes “are identical to the things I called for the day Secretary Paulson released his plan” Obama said.
Who cares? All I care about is doing whatever we can do to make sure that Obama doesn’t get elected. Obama’s election would be such a complete disaster that it would probably herald the end of Western Civilization. Personally, I’m at 50-50 as to whether it’s even worth going on living in a world where THAT MAN could become the President of the United States.
Where are these guys....hiding out?
Pressured by whom? Bush? McCain?
You're overstating the instability. The markets are holding fast. The dollar hasn't dropped like a rock over the past week. We cannot bail out foreign banks just because your nerves are rattled by the Chinese government. They're not as crazy as some might like to believe.
I have a feeling McCain’s planning the mother of all rope-a-dopes on this one.
