I agree. I would like to know. It seems to be a country club Republican misperception that the lower middle class does not pay taxes. In my life, I have made as little as $10,000 and, even as a single parent with two depedents, had to pay FIT, SIT, FICA etc. I don’t know where they are getting their information. Most people at that level don’t itemize, because they don’t own a home.

FICA is social security, not income tax. The republicans are talking about FEDERAL income tax, not state or local, but your federal income tax. Most of the low income people get tax credits and do not pay the federal income tax.

There are many more 'closet country club' Democrats than Republicans.

But you get a tax refund and earned income credit that is more than the taxes you paid in.

I challenge you to tell us what year you made 10,000 in. As far back as 2000, a single person with no dependents did not pay until they made over 26, 250. You say you have children and used the earned income credit. You may think you paid because if you worked money came out of your paycheck but certainly that money and possibly more since you claim earned income.
