McCain gets a slight edge among 14 undecided Pennsylvania voters (LA TIMES)

ALLENTOWN, PA. -- To a small cross section of crucial voters gathered in this presidential battleground, Friday's debate provided a slight boost for Republican John McCain but left him and Democrat Barack Obama with much to do to sway fence-sitters in the next five weeks.

More than a dozen undecided voters gathered Friday night at Muhlenberg College, a small liberal arts school in eastern Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, a region traditionally coveted by presidential candidates because of its high concentration of swing voters.

Six of the 14 voters said they were more likely to vote for McCain after the 90-minute session, and four said the same of Obama. Four said they remained unswayed.

Bruce Glazier, a registered Republican from Upper Macungie Township who has voted Democratic in the last two elections, said he was leaning more strongly toward McCain.

"McCain seemed a little more polished," said Glazier, who works in credit and collections. "He really unflapped [Obama] quite a few times." He declined to cite an example. "I just felt Obama lost it. He is not as believable as McCain."

Even the Los Angeles Times was forced to say McCain won a majority of swing voters in PA. Its bad news for Obambi!

Ruhroh - the journalists in California must be imploding.

Did I misread earlier today or did a San Francisco paper really endorse McCain?

I guess we would expect a reaction given that rural Pennsylvanians are all bitter clingers. I’m still skeptical of focus groups in general.

Nice to see that the group was 9 registered Dems and 5 registered GOP. Maybe that mirrors the state party ID (and at least the LAT gets credit for providing that info, unlike certain other media outlets).

Calm down! 6 said they would vote for McCain and 5 were registered Republicans.

Not much of a poll.

I'd agree. Its too small to predict anything useful but if McCain can expand this rapport with swing voters, PA will go Red on November 4th.

Hey, I live in LA Country and believe it or not, there are a good number of conservatives here. It’s just the Hollywood Liberals that make the most noise. If the Republican party would put more money in the state, the party would do much better in the Southern portion of the state and the inland counties in both Northern and Southern Ca. The Bay Area however is hoplessly lost. Always has been.

And yes, the SF Examiner endorsed McCain-Palin! Gavin Newsome must be pissed

Yep, I see little way to filter out advocates pretending to be undecided. So whether the news is bad or good, I take it with a grain of salt.

Not much of a poll but I think Obambi got hit last night and he'll need to find a way to recover. He has two debates left to do it.

And 9 were registered Dems and only 4 would vote for Obama. That’s more telling.

Geez, that’s some headline. What’s the matter, “McCain manages to barely convince a couple of losers in some livingroom somewhere” too long for them?

"A Slight Edge?" Believe me, if Obambi had won the debate, the headline would be titled, "PA swing voters shift decisively for Obama." It hurts the MSM to admit the truth, which they'll never do!

Exactly, that’s the title they’d use. The subhead would be “McCain called ‘Old, out of touch, smelly’”

These focus groups are only as good as the people screening the “undecided” voters. Recently, a newspaper was busted for allowing Code Pinkers in an undecided focus group!

well, if code pinkers were for McCain, I would be even more impressed. I am surprised the article ran in the LA Times at all.

i saw the same type of reaction at the WSJ site... lots of Obama supporters giving comments, but several Democrats saying they were voting for McCain... they felt he won the debate... one person was a legal immigrant... he/she couldn't see how anyone would love this country and vote for Obama... i think the big networks are trying to spin this as an Obama win, but i don't believe that it's going to play out that way in "real" America...

Obama seems like the smart ass kid come home from college after learning from his professors that everything his parents believe is wrong, and rolling his eyes when his dad tries to explain how the real world works.

The Bracelet Moment is a perfect distillation of 0bama.
Fraudulent concern that is little more than political posturing.
He has a bracelet, but he doesn’t even know the name on it.
But we’re supposed to believe that he really, really cares.
