While McCain got better as the debate progressed, and definitely would WIN the debate for politically aware, intelligent conservatives, he did not appear as composed or confident as Obama did, for about 3/4 of the debate. Obama was “in the zone,” no stuttering, etc., for a very long time.

Obama did not appear like a naive, inexperienced talker. He seemed alert and well-rehearsed. He seemed knowledgeable. It may all be appearance, but it’s true.

McCain often was off point, especially in the first half, and did not respond to the subject matter directly. That is usually a sign of being ill prepared, and having to fit what you DO know, rather than an actual coherent answer on point, into your time allotted.

I call em as I see em. I hope he is given a chance to relax a bit and come up with goals for his next debate. Obama had that luxury today, while McCain was trying to fight for us in DC.

Remember one of those Luntz groups during another election. One of the people was exposed as a Dem operative. I don’t pay any attention to the group whether they are for or against my guy.

Those undecided voter groups are among the most embarrassing aspects of our degraded political culture. The very idea that these people, most of whom are nitwits, are paraded before the cameras to tell us which candidate stuttered the most, or which candidate seemed to care about their feeeeeeeeeelings, is disgusting.

I did not say who left first, I said, who left most Frustrated. Based on his bodylanguage throughout the debate. He was visibly irritated. Obama needed resaurance from the liberal college croud.... his base.

You see, Obama stuck to his base. McCain he pretty much appealed, successfuly, to the middle. Yet another subtle win that is just a simple truth as well LOL. The man who will be president, will also appeal to the most of those who live in the center.

Obama 0 McCain 1

McCain was weak for about 5 minutes. He shined the rest of the debate.

Nonsense.

I see it like this.

Diehard Repubs = McCain
Loony Libs = BO

Undecideds:
senior citizens = wiser, mature McCain
Veterans = McCain (BO had to look at his friggin bracelet!)
Reagan Democrats = McCain
Florida = McCain after tonight (differences on Israel)

Undecideds who are sick of fuel problems in the US = DRILL NOW = McCain

I really hate to say it, but Obama won big on style, IMO.

Here's my opinion on your opinion. Obama, in a long democrat tradition, acted like a little boy and McCain spanked his ass.

So my advice to anybody at FR is to disregard your opinions, they're worthless.

No, he didn't. As he and Michelle stepped forward and waved to the crowd, they erupted wildly. McCain was already off the stage at the time.

No, you're wrong. The camera was on Obama and Michelle as they walked off. McCain and Cindy were on the other side of the stage walking off at the same time.

Yup, Krauthammer has been very disappointing of late. I think he’s pissed that Lieberman did not get the VP slot, and what’s worse, Palin “with no experience” (gag me!) got the job. I haven’t agreed with him 50% of the time. I used to look forward to watching him on Brit’s show. That is no longer the case.

Ahhhh...I DO need to start drinking then! :)

I’m stunned at these responses...it reveals this country has a MUCH MUCH larger problem than Wall Street, we have a very serious mental health crisis in this country! And I mean CRISIS!

That or we’ve been invaded by body snatchers!

We just have to remember this is the drive-by media...Americans (hopefully) saw what we saw!

I wonder if McCain’s strategy was to let Obama speak and trip himself up. There are a LOT of things McCain’s campaign can use from tonight to make Obama look like a complete fool, IMHO. :-)

That’s exactly what I thought. I was hoping for a really really bad stuttering crash. However, I believe BHO was soundly defeated, looked like a rude snob, and very childish.

The best way to do this is to do video clips of his comments from the debate followed by video clips of him saying the exact opposite. Where no video is available then just use still shots of printed historical facts from history or from major newspapers. I hope someone is talented enough to do something like that. Make it like that burning down the house video on the front page side bar here on FR. That is very effective.

McCain leads on defense and economy... the only two issues that matter to most Americans.

I saw the same exact thing - the focus group hand-raising was about 50/50 or slightly more McCain. Luntz then says “a lot more for Obama over here”(pointing to one corner of the group), and then proceeds to hear 4 pro-Obama comments to one quick pro-McCain one. Then Luntz says watch the graph lines going way up for Obama and down for McCain and the lines go about the same for both. What the H???

I agree - there were definitely missed opportunities. However, we will not be going to the polls tomorrow, and nothing has been decided by Congress at this point as far as the plan. I think McCain might have been sly with this — when Obama gets over-confident his elitist attitude start shining through like crazy. He gets VERY cocky and makes stupid mistakes (like the lies, and contradictions of his OWN position tonight when he got angry). I think McCain is saving some of his ammo. If there’s one thing I think everyone could agree on it is that McCain is a very skilled politician. Sometimes it’s good to keep some stuff up your sleeve. (I hope I’m right on this! LOL)
