Republicans in the House are not in a very good bargaining position. Truth is, Democrats can pass the Paulson/Rat/Bush bailout bill anytime they want.

Truth is, Democrats can pass the Paulson/Rat/Bush bailout bill anytime they want. If they want to take the heat, they could pass it without a Republican vote in the House. So far, they do not.

I know I wasn’t dreaming, but can someone confirm this. Early this morning our local news said that Harry Reid (D-NV) had added a provision to the economic rescue bill that would prevent offshore drilling. Supposedly, Jim DeMint (R-SC) caught it. That’s part of the reason for the lack of agreement on this ridiculous bill.

But they won't cuz they know the deal is bad for tax payers and they need cover of GOP votes backing the bill.
McCain opposes Bush bill yet McCain is Bush III ?
There goes Obama's main talking point!

Truth is, Democrats can pass the Paulson/Rat/Bush bailout bill anytime they want. The Democrats absolutely need the Republicans to be in on this. Without the Republicans, the Democrats would take all the heat on this highly unpopular bailout, and they would get killed in the congressional elections.
For that reason, the Republicans are in the driver's seat here, and they can demand anything they want.
And if nothing gets done, the Republicans (and McCain if he stays with them) still come out on top for stopping this monstrosity.
