Then please explain why DLT changed the headline. It is a trollish thing to do, and he should know this, being here since 2001.

If he is going to act like a troll, then perhaps he should go join them.

IT’S NOT TRUE. Mike Pence just said on Hannity that McCain opposes the Paulson bailout.

This thread title was altered.

Another hit piece trying to distort the truth. "Roy Blunt, negotiator for the House GOP, just told CNN that John McCain is "with" his caucus"

yea, what "caucus" is he with?

"McCain appears to be siding with conservatives and House Republicans who question the bailout and its costs to taxpayers as well as government rescuing private lenders and perhaps taking ownership stakes in rescued banks."

This certainly separates the true conservatives from the knee jerk reactionists, don’t it?

Reid and Pelosi don't need McCain in this. Pass the bill if you think it's the only way! I don't hear any threat of filibuster.

I have an alternate suggestion. With the size of thr bill they are discussing, rather than pouring cash into failed institutions, they can send a check of $7,500 to $10,000 to EVERY taxpaying citizen of the United States. Then they can have each taxpayer decide how best to spend his or her own money.

Otherwise, stop the earmarks of EVERY size. The rest will take care of itself.

"jumpstart" is too strong. Stabilize and prevent further declines is what I would hope for

Correct. I did use the wrong word. I am certainly not looking for housing prices to do a fast turn up. I would be happy with stabilization as well.

To tell you the truth, when I consider that a $300 billion housing bill was just passed a few weeks ago with hardly the batting of an eyelash, I am not appalled at the $700 billion figure to get us out of a real jam. Sure, spending is a large problem and we need to shrink it and I think McCain may just be the guy to do it. But I just don't find this 700 B figure the apocalypse that most are declaring, especially since as you say I see a lot of it being recovered.

pointing what out? that Mccain IS NOT supporting Bush's bail out?

"Breaking News: McCain Supports House GOP Plan (CBS News)"

The headline is a lie, like I pointed out and proved the post above.

There are quite a few people here who do trust him, now. But our trust was hard earned. It wasn’t just blind loyalty. It started back in the summer when he began to earn our trust. I won’t say he will never dissappoint us but we are not going to throw him under the bus at the first lie from the MSM.

If it were up to me, whatever passes, this or a guaranty of some sort, the takers must share the pain. I would put all of the executives on a govenment level payroll. No more multimillion dollar salaries — $200K or so. No dividends to stockholders. A hold on stock options.

The people running these companies should make millions while taxpayers are at risk, and their shareholders should also take a hit. If they can repay the money, I don’t care if they pay their executives $1 billion a year, but not if they are playing with OUR MONEY.

Normally I might agree with you.

But I suspect that there will be a turnover of the executives in these companies. They will need a new crop to deal with the new issues. I don't have any problem denying severance to departing CEO's who were part of the mess.

But how will you attract CEO's of talent on $200,000/yr.? That doesn't even pay their property tax.

The one thing we are going to want is for these companies to function well with good talent if we need them to move houses again which is the point of the plan.

Some people just have so much time invested in hating one person or another, that they would cut off their nose to spite their face, clinging to it.(the hate)

It’s really a sad commentary on a pervasiveness of human desire and selfcentered-ness..

No amount of change from the object of their disgust will alter that fact.

And although I may agree that certain individuals may not be deserving of ‘forgiveness’, John McCain doesn’t appear, so far, to be one of them.

It’s like drinking a soda and then hitting yourself in the head and saying....’Wow...I coulda had a V8!!’..

:)
