When he said "this sucker could go down," Bush wasn't talking about the bailout plan.
He was talking about the American financial system.
Even the mainstream media were stunned by the details emerging Thursday night of what went on behind closed doors in the White House Cabinet Room at a meeting that brought together leading members of Congress from both parties; the two presidential candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain; and George Bush and assorted administration officials.
Beforehand, Congressional leaders said they were basically united on the bailout plan. It seemed like Bush and the two presidential candidates would give their stamp of approval, and the deed would be done.
But then, according to reports, House Minority Leader John Boehner announced that he and fellow Republicans just couldn't go along with a proposal that violated their free-market principles by putting the private sector's financial assets--worthless though they may be--into the hands of the federal government. The meeting then devolved into shouting matches and recriminations, according to reports.

I refuse to give them the webhit
He was talking about Barney Frank.
“Behind closed doors”????? This whole thing must be viewed by the general public. The people need and have the right to see who is saying what. Obama acts like he is controlling the whole thing. He is so out classed by the people meeting with the President, it isn’t even funny any longer.
If the average American can’t grasp what the left is up to here, including Obama’s attempts to politicize a VERY serious situation, then they deserve what they get!
congressman Trent Franks of Az. called nito local Phoenix radio and said the calls coming in on this bail out is 50 / 50
50 percent....NO........50 percent.....HELL NO !
How DARE they do such a thing!!!! ;^)
“If the average American cant grasp what the left is up to here, including Obamas attempts to politicize a VERY serious situation, then they deserve what they get!”
They do, but I don’t. I will be collateral damage I suppose.
I look at Americans, and I accept what’s coming, and that’s socialism. I’d like to avoid it as long as possible, hoping that I pass before we become a communist paradise like Cuba. But, I don’t think I’ll make it. America is well on the road to becoming a communist state. And someday, people will realize what was lost. That is when the price to regain freedom will be much greater, the blood of many will be spilled.
Yep, I see a bleak future.
“50 percent....NO........50 percent.....HELL NO !”
Amen to that! We don’t need this bailout! When will the liberals realize that we don’t want socialism????
If they want socialism that badly, then they should move to Europe....
It has been reported that Barney “Lollipop” Frank offered to...no...somewhere, someone is eating breakfast.
I was listening to glenn beck and he just made a GREAT POINT~!
The Democraps all want this, and the President wants this.
THEY HAVE CONTROL
Why do they NEED Republican support or to even negotiate with them??????????
For years they have been complaining (especially about McCain) that he VOTES WITH BUSH- BUT IN THIS CASE THE DEMOCRAPS ARE VOTING WITH BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed.
This excerpt reads like the Democrats daily talking points.
Don't ya love this BS?
Amazing!
But who in Washington cares what the people think today?
I too was hoping that I would pass before it happened. I have however come to realize that I have a very good chance of dying in CW2 fighting those who would impose it on us. We are in VERY dangerous times.
the democrats care at least for the next 48 hours because the democrats do not want their signature on this during election time
You will not be alone, my friend. Many of us will die fighting for the principles upon which this nation was founded against “enemies, foreign and domestic”.
Colonel, USAFR
Let the so called “leaders” in our Congress bail this thing out with their own money...that they took from us anyway!
