Chronicles of Absurdity
Anan Colmes and Lindsay Lohan Dissect Sarah Palin, Parent

* CNN's John Roberts asked a female correspondent: "Children with Down syndrome require an awful lot of attention and it raises the issue of how much time will she have to dedicate to her newborn child?" * The Atlantic's Andrew Sullivan felt the need to spotlight a reader's e-mail that shared the charge that "Sarah Palin is a bad mother!" * Fox news commentator Alan Colmes put up a post on his blog asking, "Did Palin Take Proper Pre-Natal Care?" and noting that "even after the water broke, she continued with her activities and then boarded a plane." Had Colmes consulted something beyond one newspaper article about the birth, he might have learned that this occurs in about 150,000 U.S. pregnancies each year and can occur a week before labor begins. At the time, Palin consulted her doctor who determined she was not in active labor and okayed her flight. Many interpreted Colme's post as whether the flight contributed to Trig Palin's Down syndrome, and liberal bloggers repeated the charge.

Geraghty continues: "* Campbell Brown of CNN asked McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds "why Palin would have subjected her pregnant daughter to this kind of scrutiny by accepting this high-profile position?" * Liberal talk show host Ed Schultz asked Larry King, "What kind of mother is she? Is she prepared to be the vice president? Is she going to be totally focused on the issues?" * Harry Smith of CBS's Early Show asked: "Should a woman with five children run for the second-highest office? Can a mother of five, including an infant with Down syndrome, be an effective vice president?" * Washington Post columnist Sally Quinn declared that "a woman with five children, including one with special needs, and a daughter who is a 17-year-old child who is pregnant, probably has got to rethink her priorities." MSNBC's Keith Olbermann reacted in outrage to a comment by Hawaii governor Linda Lingle on this issue. Said Olbermann: "I'd love the governor or anybody else repeating those talking points to give us the names of those news organizations that have actually questioned whether or not mothers have a right to sit in office. But we havn't heard that list yet. His colleague Chris Matthews agreed: "I sit here waiting for that list of major news organizations who have questioned her motherhood or her right to become vice president, given her motherhood. I don't think it has ever happened." Glad to oblige.

CNN is now using Lindsay Lohan as a political analyst? I’d laugh if this weren’t so sad.

To me at least, all the criticism Fox News personalities have given to the media and others for questioning Palins ability as a mother are hypocrites. I never heard a single one condemn Colmes for his statements.
Shame on Hannity for that. I lost a lot of respect for him.

Alan Colmes put up a post...noting that "even after the water broke, she continued with her activities and then boarded a plane." Is he really dumb enough to suggest that after a normal-term pregnancy that the child became a Down's child the instant her water broke? The guy looks like a dufus, now I'm starting to wonder if he really is one.

Alan Colmes is a complete idiot!
I can’t watch Hannity & Colmes anymore because of him.
The sooner Sean gets him off the program, the better.
His ratings would go way up if Alan was gone, imho.

They're using Allen Colmes as a moral guide so why not Ms. Lohan as a political analyst.
Cannot help but make CNN better eh!

In all due respect, I think Colmes was questioning whether a woman in premature labor at 7 months should have taken an eight-hour airplane flight, when almost every airline forbids it. The baby could have developed some sort of distress and it would have not been treatable in a plane.
To: bethtopaz
Hannity has no plans to remove Colmes, at least not that I’ve heard of.
I agree with you, if he got rid of the idiot and put in a democrat like Kirsten Powers his ratings would go WAY up.

Maybe they could get Colmes and Lohan to “breed” ~ they could produce some really weird offspring ya’ know. Make a guaranteed TV “freak show”.
Colmes'd like that.

Yes, because Todd Palin is just a figment of my imagination. Or a complete moron because we all know men cannot father a child with special needs.
Sexism is alive and well folks.

I can’t watch because of either of them. Sean Hannity is a good spouter of catch phrases, but he is really dimwitted and lets alot of stuff fly right by him.
And Alan Colmes is more than a moron than I thought if he thinks not getting to a hospital immediately caused a chromosome problem in an infant.

I don’t watch H&C much any more either. Colmes is only there as a trouble maker. Not worth the time.

Down’s syndrome is genetic and therefore totally unrelated to pre-natal care. This shouldn’t come up at all. It is only raised by those trying to damage Palin politically. What jerks.

The sooner Sean gets him off the program, the better. We need Colmes on the program so viewers can contrast his liberalism with Hannity's conservatism and be able to make up their own minds.
To: worst-case scenario
Still, to try and make an issue when the doctor was consulted just seems to me to be looking for witches...
