Palin, McCain Disagree on Causes of Global Warming
Washington Post ^

Posted on 09/22/2008 7:55:37 PM PDT by Chet 99

No one, including Gov. Sarah Palin, questions that Alaska's climate is changing more rapidly than any other state's. But her skepticism about the causes and what needs to be done to address the consequences stands in sharp contrast to the views of her running mate, Sen. John McCain, and place her to the right of the Bush administration and several other Republican governors.

Although Palin established a sub-cabinet to deal with climate change issues a year ago, she has focused on how to adapt to global warming rather than how to combat it, and she has publicly questioned scientists' near-consensus that human activity plays a role in the rising temperatures.

Why is this a bad thing? Working on adapting to climate change is likely to be more certain of success than believing the superstitious ritual of buying carbon credits will prevent the change.

I actually have no problem with AGW!

Because the solution is not more taxes or some cap and trade regime. Get the govt out of the way, have a sound currency, the economy will grow and companies will come up with new technologies that will solve the problem. “Green” stuff sells. Only rich countries can afford new eco-friendly cars, etc.

"(B) mankind has the ability to deliberately change climate (by changing environmental policies)."

I haven't seen ANY plans by these global wrming alarmists and liberal governments who support them bring forth any policies, to actually change the climate.

Taxing carbon does nothing to eliminate it. It just makes people pay more for it. Does taxing beer make people drink less beer?
Will taxing natural gas or home heating oil make people wear parka's in their homes in the winter?

Take that Canadian liberal running for prime minister and his "green shift" plan. He plans to tax Canadians another 40 billion in new "carbon" taxes. He is not eliminating any other taxes. Oh no. just 'reducing' them a little. Then he plans to give that 40 billion in new tax revenue BACK to the sheeple in goodies that I guess Canadians are too stupid to buy on their own.

Stupid as it all sounds and is, how does that reduce carbon output and the mythical "global warming"?

It doesn't. All he's doing is charging Canadians $50 a ton for the carbon they produce. I guess that means Canadians will have to pay the government $25 a year just to breathe.

Insanity.

The worst of it all is- Carbon is NOT a pollutant. It's one of the most abundant, natural elements on earth, necessary for life to exist.

The stupidity of people falling for this global warming nonsense is just mind numbing.

"I haven't heard of Gov Palin ever mentioning Alaska's climate changing. Got a link for that?"

Go to the Alaska governor's website, and look up the executive orders. Read the one where she sets up the climate commission - she explicitly says Alaska's climate has been warming, because it HAS been warming. Of course, localized warming is not the same as global warming, nor does it necessarily imply human causation.

Even if they aren't elected, Sarah Palin is the future of the party...and America.

If They lose this election it will be because of McCain and his idiotic "all gods children" immigration policy among others.

If we want Sarah Palin, we have to elect McCain/Palin and look beyond McCain

"Considering the temperature outside right now, here in Yakima, WA, I don’t believe in ‘global warming’. It is going to get down into the low 30’s tonight. Looks like and early winter."

We didn't have a summer here this year. just a couple "average' warm weeks and now it's fall again. The snow will be here for good in about a month and stay till April or may again. Global warming, HA! I remember in the 60 and 70's we used to have hot summers, I remember hunting in shirt sleeves in November, still using the boat and motor to get across the lake. I haven't been able to do that for 20 years now. The lake is frozen over, but not thick enough to walk on in Nov. now. The deer are laughing.

In the ABC interview, Palin said she believes that “man’s activities certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming, climate change. ... Regardless, though, of the reason for climate change, whether it’s entirely, wholly caused by man’s activities or is part of the cyclical nature of our planet — the warming and the cooling trends — regardless of that, John McCain and I agree that we gotta do something about it.”

Hmmm...with all that is going on...ask me if I give a crap about global warming or what causes it!

I’m tired of this election and I don’t like what’s happening to my country.

Sorry...just had to vent.

she has publicly questioned scientists' near-consensus that human activity plays a role in the rising temperatures.

Sarah is very wise to question what is alleged to be a near-consensus in the scientific community about the cause of global warming. Actually there are thousands of very well accredited scientists who do not believe that envirowhackjob malarky.

While recently waiting in a doctor's office I read a short piece taken from an article in a scientific journal saying that naturally produced water vapor makes up 97% of all greenhouse gases combined, and of the remaining 3% only about 1/10 of that 3% is man made CO2. Of that 3% of all greenhouse gases, naturally produced methane is 13 times more efficient at absorbing and retaining the sun's heat than CO2.

If those figures are anywhere near accurate it would be extremely difficult to convince me that a very small increase spread over several decades in that 1/10th of 3% of all greenhouse gasses combined is causing the polar icecaps to melt, Greenland to thaw, oceans to rise, wildlife to starve and become extinct, and bringing about a global catastrophe of an unimaginable magnitude.

However, I will admit that the global warming alarmists are very sincere in their mistaken belief, and earnestly desire to turn back the calendar to the 17th and early 18th centuries prior to the myriads of mechanical inventions and scientific discoveries in the centuries following that time period. IOW, the very same inventions and discoveries that transformed the wretchedly poor masses of the civilized western nations into modern day wage earners, business men/women, professionals of all kinds, and most despised of all by envirowhackos, the affluent consumers of goods and services who keep the modern global economy afloat.
