No, you don't have it all. SNL can mock whomever they want. But suggesting that a man has committed incest is over the line. That is not funny. Rather it is reprehensible.
Here’s the sketch:

It’s satirizing the New York Times.
Case closed.
The reason I think this was well done is that it was a "fly-on-the-wall" look at an organization like the NYT.
The fact that SNL used Todd Palin, his daughters, and incest in the same sentence is not the issue. The issue is that this is what IMO the reporter(s) THINK. And the fact that the assertion was treated the same as if this reporter had suggested that Todd was involved with space aliens, deserves a thumbs-up to SNL.
In fact SNL did a bang-up job of exposing just how petty and provincial the NYT is. They actually turned the tables on the NYT - exposing THEM as the true small-minded bumpkins - instead of the folks in Alaska.
Was the reference to incest crass? Of course. But don't blame SNL; blame the NYT and left-wing elitist snobbery for even having the "incest" thought in the first place.
The skit didn’t “suggest” Todd Palin did anything. It suggested that the MSM, which has run with suggestions that Trig isn’t Sarah’s, that she faked a pregnancy, that she should have had an abortion, that she should stay home and be a good mom, and that she engaged in a scandal called “Troopergate” (there was a real troopergate they weren’t interested in) are out-of-touch dishonest imbeciles.
Did you notice that “Karl Marx” works for the NYT in this fabulous bit?
