NEW YORK (CBS) ― Already under fire for his tax troubles, Manhattan Congressman Charles Rangel really put his foot in his mouth on Friday.
In a CBS 2 HD exclusive interview Rep. Rangel called Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin "disabled."
The question was simple. Why are the Democrats so afraid of Palin and her popularity.
The answer was astonishing.
"You got to be kind to the disabled," Rangel said.
That's right. The charman of the powerful House Ways & Means Committee called Palin disabled -- even when CBS 2 HD called him on it.
CBS 2 HD: "You got to be kind to the disabled???"
Rangel: "She's disabled."
"There is no question about politically it's a nightmare to think that a person's foreign policy is based on their ability to look at Russia from where they live."
Republicans think Rangel's comments are insulting as well as shocking.
"Charlie Rangel's comments are clearly disgraceful," Rep. Peter King, R-Long Island, said. "This is just another liberal Democrat who can't accept an independent woman running for president."
King, who is co-chair of the McCain-Palin campaign in New York, watched Rangel's comments with CBS 2 HD. He was particularly upset because Palin's 4-month-old son, Trig, is disabled. He has Down's syndrome.
"We should be sensitive to her or any woman who has a child or family member who has any afflciiton at all," King said. "And so to use the word disabled in the conetxt of a female candidate for vice president who has a child who is disabled really is wrong. Charlie owes her and the entire disbale community and appology."
Advocates for the disabled are also upset.
((sot michael imperiale 135028) "It makes me feel as if he's trying to put her down, trying to say she's not good for the presidency or the vice presidency," Michael Imperiale said.
"A disabled president ran this country. He was didabled. His name was Roosevelt."
a spokesman for the McCain-Palin campaign also piled on, saying that this kind of rhetoric has no place in politics.
Add Rangel to the list of brain dead Democrats.
He’s been at the top of that list for a long long time.
Charlie call her what you will, but she is not a crook who committed tax evasion.
VICE PRESIDENT
Sheesh!
Demon possession?
video is now up
Okay, Charlie. Take a good look at Gov. Palin. Now take a good long look at Tina Fey.
Guess which one of them it was that used that line on "Saturday Night Live" last week.
You're getting senile in your old age. Maybe that's why you're forgetting to pay your taxes.
The girl who drew it is a big time lib. She explained that that was just her gut reaction to 9/11. But now she doesn't like it cause it's come to represent the war and all she doesn't agree with.
She sure made a pile of money off it when it was popular though. However, she won't license it's use to anyone now.
I actually exchanged emails with her regarding another matter unaware that she was the artist who made that.
Seems like a nice kid, a bit too much into the "goth" scene.
Rangel is delirious.
How is that comment "piling on"?

A Mercedes belonging to Manhattan Representative Charles Rangel that was improperly parked in a congressional parking lot was towed Thursday afternoon.
The New York Post revealed that the Harlem Congressman left his 1972 silver Mercedes in a capitol garage for more than four years without license plates or proper registration.
House of Representatives rules forbid storing cars in the garage for more than 45 days.
The car was reportedly taken to a dealership to be serviced.
Also on Thursday, a House resolution to remove Rangel from his post as the head of the House Ways and Means Committee fell short. The vote fell largely along party lines.
The committee writes the nation’s tax laws.
Meantime, the House Ethics Committee announced yesterday it will convene next week to investigate questions of whether Rangel violated IRS and congressional rules.

Maybe King knows more than the general public?
Why didn’t he just call her a “retard”?
You are so suave, Charlie.
It was drawn by Elizabeth Gauger. She was born in 1984, so that would mave made here 17 or 18 at the time.
I pray he does :-)
He has really lost it.
Ug, forget to spell check tat one.
