McCain went from even to -2 to -4 to -5 in the last 4 Gallup trackers. This is consistent with him being in -5 range for the last 3 days.

Rasmussen still shows it even, but his party ID numbers may be too optimistic, since they include the RNC bounce, which is now dissipating.

Gallup may be a bit volatile, since they did not normalize the sample, but together with the recent state polls it is quite clear that McCain is at least 2-3 points behind. The AIG/FNM/FRE ordeal really hurt the ticket.

If Obama’s lead stays in the current range, there is a good chance the race will tighten after the first debate. Also, a calm week or two in the markets would be a big help. If not, Obama is a shoe-in.

In any case, the next president inherits a huge mess. I almost wish Obama gets to deal with it, but he will use it as an excuse for New Deal 2.0, and we all know how New Deal 1.0 worked.

History has showned that when the investment bankers screw up and people are thrown out of work, they run scare into the arms of the socialists, communists and facists.

I know someone that has worked for Gallup for years... and she does not trust them. Take it for what you will.

I told my husband if it wasn't for SCOTUS justices, and economic repercussions, Obama as President would have some entertainment value.

As far as New Deal 2.0, interesting statement coming from Paulsen, Dodd, etc. about their bailout and meeting last night. The statement was made that this bailout would curtail tax cuts, and spending increases for the next administration. I wonder after all Obama has promised as far as tax cuts for the middle class and spending increases, I wonder if he'll change his message.

Well, maybe most of us here do, but unfortunately, most Americans have been taught, and now accept as fact, that the New Deal ended the Depression, and that FDR saved capitalism from its inherent fatal excesses.
