SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit seeking to remove John McCain from the California ballot because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup ruled late Tuesday that the law at the time of McCain's birth automatically granted citizenship to offspring of U.S. citizens.

Obama's status is still a puzzle right along with just what his experience and plans are.
All this was perhaps the silliest diversion of the campaign. Per the Constitution, one need not be a ‘Native Born Citizen’ (i.e., born stateside) to become President.
Like it or not, both McCain & Bama are ‘Natural Born Citizens’ by virtue of at least one parent having been a US citizen — regardless of where in the world each was actually born.

Several generations of Romney’s before him had been Mexican..

thats where you are wrong...if Obama was born in Kenya he is a Kenyan citizen. US law stated that in order for him to be a US citizen his mother had to be 19 at his time of birth. She was only 18 when Obama was born. Kenya law stated that if one parent was a Kenyen citizen then the child was automatically a Kenyan citizen. Obama’s father was from Kenya. Additionally, Obamas mothers 2nd husband was from Indonesia, he adopted Obama and they lived there for several years. Obama went to private school in Indonesia and his mother listed his religon as Islam on his school records all this would make him an Indonesian citizen. So tecnically he has dual-citizenship with Kenya and Indonesia...and none with the US.
I didn't know this. On the other hand, nothing was actually settled because he didn't win -- unless there was a court case back then that wasn't referenced here.
Obama doesn't want to steal John Kerry's thunder, so he decided to wait to release them once Kerry releases his military records. We all know Kerry's release of that information is imminent since he has been promising it for five years now.
The natural born comment in the Constitution has always been interpreted to mean "within the territory of the United States". Lots of discussion about what that meant and why back then, contrary to the remark about the Founders being silent.
My Grandfather, a United States Consul, thought it so important that he sent my Grandmother home to have my Mother on U.S. soil in the 20's. He knew: his job was to admit people to the United States overseas and to process those claiming citizenship by virtue of birth to U.S. citizens abroad. Believe me, there were questions then just as now. Only birth on U.S. soil under legal circumstances erases all doubt.
There are historical reasons why the Constitution was written this way. The European Monarchs played musical chairs to keep the power in their "family" and to create alliances. The current "British" royal family is in fact a gang of Germans as a few people know these days. The Founders wanted no part of foreign thugs ruling them as had happened in Oppressed Europe.
Thus the Natural Born requirement. And no, you can't do a Steve Breyer and change the meaning by re-defining it in modern terms (like the poster who claims that they should have said "native born").
We won't be ruled by foreigners and those not loyal. That is why the rule exists. And it should never, ever change, and in fact should be strengthened in this day and age of Globalist scheming to undermine the Independence of the United States.
FYI: It is notable that while Romney was born in Mexico, he was still considered to be a viable and legal candidate to run for office. His Mormon grandfather and his three wives fled to Mexico in 1886, but none of them ever relinquished their citizenship. While the Constitution does provide that a president must be a natural born citizen, the first Congress of the United States in 1790 passed legislation stating: “The children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond the sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural-born citizens of the United States.” Romney and his family fled Mexico in 1912 prior to the Mexican revolution.

So many people refuse to understand that “natural born” refers to “being born on US soil”
In regards to running for President....the requirement is to be “natural born”. Since The Canal Zone was part of the US at the time...McCain qualifies for the Presidency
This judge, although correct in the overall ruling, quite obviously has little understanding of the Constitution.
And correct, the “natural born” provision was included precisely to keep non-Americans (ie royal families) from ruling the country.
And how wise our forefathers were....some of the worlds most totalitarian and power mad rulers years later were all foreigners to their country...Napoleon, Stalin, Hitler....

I was stationed overseas during the early 70’s...
If I had had children while I was away, they would NOT have been eligible to be POTUS...
Even though their father and I were BOTH Americans and in the US military.....
Does "The judge also said the plaintiff, Markham Robinson, chairman of the American Independent Party, had no standing to file the lawsuit because he is not a candidate for president." indicate that the pending lawsuit against Obama could be tabled/thrown out for lack of standing?
