At some point, all you want is for the pain to stop, and you’ll do *anything* to stop it.
It’s only a matter of time.

Actually, if you’ve read McCain’s book, there was apparently one guy who didn’t. He died while resisting to the very end.
It goes beyond the pain though. The psychological abuse human beings suffer distorts reality and weakens their resolve. They will eventually say things true or not. In the end the captors win.
