haven't read through the thread, but during his covention speech, I recall hearing Senator McCain said he was broken while in captivity.

"But after I turned down their offer, they worked me over harder than they ever had before, for a long time, and they broke me. When they brought me back to my cell, I was hurt and ashamed, and I didn't know how I could face my fellow prisoners. The good man in the cell next door to me, my friend, Bob Craner, saved me. Through taps on a wall, he told me I had fought as hard as I could. No man can always stand alone. And then he told me to get back up and fight again for my country and for the men I had the honor to servewith, because every day they fought for me."

Any bets as to how many years, weeks, days, minutes obambi would last in the same prisoner situation?

If some rabid leftist was saying this in front of me, I would punch their lights out. Honestly.

He was also offered an early out - so they could use it for propaganda.

He refused even tho’ he knew things would get much worse for him

They did.

and he spent 3 1/2 more years of torture...I’d say that trumps one moment of weakness during pain and torture I doubt anyone in DC, and especially the obami would ever endure. They’d all have been sqealing like stuck pigs by the end of day one

He did break. It’s in his bio and the movie on him. He gave a statement to the VC. This was after years of torture.

Look for the “Rush in a Hurry” post later this evening. It’ll be addressed, I’m sure.

I heard it. The caller was a plant, but Rush gave it to him with both barrels. He used the situation to point out that torture in wartime WORKS.

I’ve been through Geneva Convention/Captive training, and one of the first things you commit to memory are the rules of the Geneva Convention when you’re in Basic Training for any service branch. You’re expected to be broken at some point under those circumstances. Tell them what they want to hear if it gets to that point, but make up as much BS as you can when you do. ;)

I seem to recall that, decades ago, it suddenly dawned on everyone that it simply doesn’t matter if POWs “break” under torture and make anti-American statements on television, or sign “confessions,” etc., precisely because nobody believes these statements and everybody knows they have been coerced. And POWs rarely, or never, have real INFORMATION to give to our enemies. There was a time when a POW who made an anti-American statement or signed a “confession” was viewed as a traitor. Today, it is rightly viewed as a non-event.

I would have broken the first ten minutes in. To watch McCain move his arms is heartbreaking.

McCain is a HERO of the United States of America. Period. Whether or not one sides with his political bent is another matter that, should it be to the contrary, could never take away from the man’s bravery.

He’s the tough sumbitch whom those putting him down would never have the nerve to stand up to. Limp-wristed, whiny, puny and pathetic, talking such things that people need boots to wade in it, such as Obama.

Hare-brained idiot fools from severely polluted gene pools.

I’m tired of liberals who KNOW what they would do in such a situation as McCain faced. They’re not brave enough to give birth to the baby they carry — “Oooh, oh, I DESERVE to be free from this mess in my belly” — yet they’re certain they could face more torture than McCain? Give me a break.

Yes, Obama, give us hope. Hope that you and your likes will leave this nation alone.

And give us change, too. A change of your address.

GO HOME, OBAMA. Indonesia needs you. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somewhereville. Just get the hell outta here.

Of course he broke, and gave them as little as possible, then recovered and did the same during the next torture session. It was the experiences in the Hanoi Hilton that led the military to rewrite the UCMJ to give prisoners more leeway during torture. It is unreasonable to expect any human to withstand the kind of torture McCain experienced and not give up something. The line is, once you have given them something, you don’t give any more unless you are subjected to more torture. It also allows POWS who are tortured to regain their morale if they give something up during a torture session. It is never acceptable to get special treatment in return for cooperation, which John McCain never did.
