Anchorage Daily News ^ | 9-16-08 | Alaska Politics

From an e-mail sent overnight by Anchorage attorney Kevin Clarkson:

Five Alaska Legislators, Rep. Wes Keller, Rep. Mike Kelly, Rep. Bob Lynn, Sen. Fred Dyson, and Sen. Tom Wagoner, will file suit in state superior court in Anchorage tomorrow morning (9/16/08) at 9:00 am (Superior courthouse 4th Avenue) against Sen. French, Sen. Kim Elton, Stephen Branchflower and the Alaska Legislative Council in order to halt the investigation of Governor Sarah Palin and others because the investigators have lost the appearance of impartiality required under the Alaska Constitution. The Legislators will ask for declaratory and injunctive relief in the investigation, stating that it is an attempt to use the Alaska Legislative Council to further partisan politics.

Dems are good at finding one weak link when the score is close. I recall when the GOP briefly won the legislature in California, Willie Brown managed to maintain control by picking off weaklings.

But, maybe it's time to turn the tables. Is there not one Dem in the legislature who is relatively conservative, who might want to benefit from a Palin presidency that will most assuredly follow a McCain victory this November? I would be hunting for that person.

“This isn’t just a Democratic hatchet job.” Your name wouldn’t be Paul Begala would it?... Of course this is a democrat hatchet job, pure and simple. That it has a few Republicans signed on doesn’t remove it from the hatchet game and you know that but you post this Democrat cover garbage anyway! Wassa madda, don’t like Sarah’s lipstick? ... Put some ice on it, democrat agitprop.

Of course this is a democrat hatchet job, pure and simple.
If it is so simple why don't the Republican majorities in the Alaskan legislature just vote to halt this nonsense?

Sorry, the committee that started this investigation voted 12-0. That's 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats. She has some serious Republican enemies up there. The 4 Democrats are easy to handle since it just looks like partisan election year garbage. But the 8 Republicans are a different matter. If these Republicans dislike her that much then we better be ready for them to toss some other bombs along the way.

Her reform has made a lot of bi-partisan enemies. High popularity ratings don't seem to be stopping these enemies from trashing her.

Niced try, mister bagala, but starting an inquiry is not the same as pushing for the sake of political empowerment even after the absurdity has been explained ... there is no case here yet the democrats want to continue for political purposes. It is deceitful people like you who run such cesspool political operations, too. You tried to defend this partisan crap, but it just exposes whom you are in your dead soul in the long run. Skip on along, agitprop.

The only thing necessary is to get the release of results delayed until after the election.

It is clear the investigation is a witch hunt and the negative results were scheduled to be released just before the election, allowing no time for rebuttal. OTOH if the results are released the day after the election is just plain doesn't matter.

Monegan was offered a different position within the administration, as executive director of the Alcohol Beverage and Control Board, but turned it down.

I've read this as well, and it would seem that this action by Palin - offering Monegan a job in a different position - completely deflates that argument she FIRED him out of some personal vendetta. If she really was firing him because she was upset that he didn't fire Wooten, why the heck would she offer him another job in her administration? It doesn't make sense.

It might be instructive to go a bit more into detail over this poster's game. The following will be a starting point:
Spittle from 21stCenturyFreeThinker "... the committee that started this investigation voted 12-0. That's 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats. She has some serious Republican enemies up there. The 4 Democrats are easy to handle since it just looks like partisan election year garbage. But the 8 Republicans are a different matter. If these Republicans dislike her that much then we better be ready for them to toss some other bombs along the way."

First thing to note is that a vote to establish an inquiry is absolutely not the sign of an attack by enemies, so the number of fellow Republicans on the committee voting to establish an inquiry is irrelevant and not in any way indicative of 'serious Republican enemies or Republicans disliking the Governor. The insinuation is a typical Alinskyesque methodology ... the prick is trying to establish that the Governor 'may not be as popular as claimed.'

Second, the establishing of a board of inquiry which finds the accusation is meritless happens all the time, especially in legislatures which are trying to establish or maintain comity ... we have a lengthy history of this sort of thing int he Tennessee legislature and, as one would suspect with democrats, the usual abuse of this board of inquiry is a way to 'indict a ham sandwich' then drop it all once the character has been impugned just enough to effect the elections. This prick is trying to sell us a stinking, rotten fish, but the stench gives it away immediately since the democrat senator in Alaska is the one trying to subpoena even the Governor's husband, as if running a grand jury investigation ... which the democrat prick is not authorized to do, PERIOD.

Third, the poster tries to insinuate that Republicans perhaps, just maybe, can you imagine, is there a chance, don't like Governor Palin. Any manipulation is game for a democrat party agitprop to try and diminish the Sarah Palin stock at a conservative website.

And last, I believe the poster is a Texas democrap party operative, and Freepers are well aware of the games democraps in Texas have played with 'boards of inquiry' and half-truths to firm up false allegations against a poliutical enemy of the socialist bastard democrat party. This crap is a democrat hallmark because democrat party is synonymous with criminal enterprise.

I may be wrong ... but i don;t think so. Someone open a window and let this dung fly out of the house. It spreads democRAT germs wherever it lands to vomit.

Why do these Senators have to go to court to get this investigation stopped?

Because if it turns out to be a kangaroo court and is sprung on us too late, there will be no way to challenge it in time and get media coverage.

There are some Republicans that are very angry with her.

Obviously. Some Republicans have been very angry with me, too :-). I can well imagine what would happen to my career if I'd taken on the good old boys (and women) club in my own life, forget it, lose lose for me even if it is true.

If this goes away soon I would keep an eye open for nasty attacks from these good old boy Republicans. This isn't just a Democratic hatchet job. She has some serious enemies up there.

Seems so. One wonders if she has any true friends apart from her running mate & family. Money and fame do curious things to a person even before they are announced as a VP pick.

I started listening to talk radio again on a limited basis. Caller: blah blah blah opposition troopergate talking points. The host is adamant she has committed no crime. It was a matter of her discretion (we've been there before with Clinton's judges, Bush's judges, never did figure out if travelgate was a violation of civil service regulations).

But if they can stick abuse of power on her or a judge legislating from the bench were to decide it was a crime, what can we do? Could happen. Ping me if any more comes out about it, please. No matter what happens, a lot of people actually involved will live to regret it, and a lot won't. Bearing false witness (some of it has to be false or distorted), last I knew, was a serious sin if you are into that.

This is just like the with the leaked Senate Intelligence Committee memo that cost Manuel Miranda his job, and almost cost Sen. Jay Rockefeller his.

That memo talked of Democrats leading Republicans along on investigation after investigation until they were ready to "pull the trigger."

For those who forgot, the text of the memo is here. This "investigation" doesn't seem any different than the Senate Democrats' plan to keep investigating as a fishing expedition for more info.

They are so desparate to keep Palin from running for President as a sitting VP in 2012, that they want to politically assassinate her now, by any means necessary. That's what they did to George Allen in 2006, out of fear of him running now, and it's what they're doing to Palin now out of fear of what she might do in 2012.

It needs to be stopped but why do they have to go to court to do it? Republicans have the majority in both chambers. I would think they could take a simple vote to table it or something.
Obviously. Some Republicans have been very angry with me, too :-). I can well imagine what would happen to my career if I'd taken on the good old boys (and women) club in my own life, forget it, lose lose for me even if it is true.
Right. I think focusing only on these Democrats is a mistake. She has taken on the good old boy network from both parties and they united to fight back. We better be prepared for them throwing more bombs her way before the election. She already told us that there is a lot of corruption there and she has stirred it up.
But if they can stick abuse of power on her or a judge legislating from the bench were to decide it was a crime, what can we do?
I doubt "troopergate" is going anywhere. She had every right to fire him. But the same people behind "troopergate" are probably planning more political dirty tricks later. She may be popular in Alaska but I would be careful about any of these legislators on either side of the aisle.
Ping me if any more comes out about it, please.
Glad to. This is a really confusion situation when you get right down into it.

“This is a really confusion situation when you get right down into it” according to you, which continues to expose your agenda since Freepers have seen there is in fact nothing to this accusation you keep trying to float for ‘apprehension’.

Yeah, leader of a COALITION. Dems do not rule without Republican support. Look at the members of the coalition who are up for re-election.
