FROM OBAMA’S OWN LIPS ADMITTING THIS IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR:
Please note the last sentence.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/06/16/1146329.aspx

He said he told Zebari that negotiations for a Status of Forces agreement or strategic framework agreement between the two countries should be done in the open and with Congress’s authorization and that it was important that that there be strong bipartisan support for any agreement so that it can be sustained through a future administration. He argued it would make sense to hold off on such negotiations until the next administration.

Obama staffer gave warning of NAFTA rhetoric

Updated Wed. Feb. 27 2008 11:45 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

Barack Obama has ratcheted up his attacks on NAFTA, but a senior member of his campaign team told a Canadian official not to take his criticisms seriously, CTV News has learned.

Both Obama and Hillary Clinton have been critical of the long-standing North American Free Trade Agreement over the course of the Democratic primaries, saying that the deal has cost U.S. workers’ jobs.

Within the last month, a top staff member for Obama’s campaign telephoned Michael Wilson, Canada’s ambassador to the United States, and warned him that Obama would speak out against NAFTA, according to Canadian sources.

The staff member reassured Wilson that the criticisms would only be campaign rhetoric, and should not be taken at face value.

But Tuesday night in Ohio, where NAFTA is blamed for massive job losses, Obama said he would tell Canada and Mexico “that we will opt out unless we renegotiate the core labour and environmental standards.”

Late Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Obama campaign said the staff member’s warning to Wilson sounded implausible, but did not deny that contact had been made.

The last paragraph:

My concern is that the Bush administration—in a weakened state politically—ends up trying to rush an agreement that in some ways might be binding to the next administration, whether it was my administration or Sen. McCain’s administration,” Obama said. “The foreign minister agreed that the next administration should not be bound by an agreement that’s currently made.”

Damning. Oh so damning.

Thanks for finding that! This agrees in major ways with what is charged the NY Post article.

Thanks for posting that info. Since when does Congress get involved in troop movements and agreements to withdraw?

I am getting to have a hatred toward Obama that will not quit. It has surpassed anything I felt against Clinton and is on a level with Kerry and Carter but about to sink even lower then those two.

So this ZERO went to Iraq and told them not to negotiate with the Bush Administration because he was going to be President? At least that is the way I read it from the quote.

Nice catch. This basically confirms the NY Post article.

Someone needs to make sure the McCain/Palin campaign sees this.

He argued it would make sense to hold off on such negotiations until the next administration.

This alone is a clear violation. Senators do NOT have negotiating authority. It should be thoroughly investigated. And if he tried to push a system that would keep our troops in Iraq longer for political, that is a criminal act and the end of his campaign.

If you have not done this already please send it to the McCain campaign and keep the cache of this URL and a copy of the article, it is MSNBC after all, they can delete everything in their archives that can be used against Obama.

I just want to point out that this article is admitting he asked Zaberi this in JUNE, by PHONE.

THe current claim is that he also mentioned it in July, in Person.

Now, the fact that Obama has admitted the charge already makes the discussion of WHEN, or HOW MANY TIMES, he did this moot.

But just be careful not to site this article as a “refutation” of the Obama denial of the July meeting. It’s evidence, but not conclusive.

The argument then is first, that Obama has already admitted the crime, and we are just talking about how often he commited the crime.

Second, if he admits doing it in June by phone, there is little reason to think Zebari is LYING about Obama saying it again in Person in July. In fact, it would make NO SENSE for Obama to raise the issue and admit it in June, and then to NOT raise the same issue in person in July.
