You are absolutely correct. The McCain/ Palin camp must make absolutely sure this is for real before going out on a limb. If this story is for real, it's huge, but if it's not, our side will look terrible.

It wouldn't be too hard to check this out with Petraeus though. If he confirms that part of the story, that alone would be disastrous for Obama. Then, not only would Obama have gone to Europe to act fawn before the Europeans, he also started bossing around our own General like he was his subordinate.

Here is the approach: "Well Sean (Hannity -assuming Fox is the only one carrying this), if true this is extremely troubling and brings up issues, not only of a cynical manipulation for election purposes, but of potential breaches of US law - The Logan Act for one. We are following up on this story and we can assure you this issue will be pursued fully."
