The Logan Act makes it a felony and provides for a prison sentence of up to three years for any American, “without authority of the United States,” to communicate with a foreign government in an effort to influence that government’s behavior on any “disputes or controversies with the United States.”

“The Logan Act makes it a felony ..”

Yes, but all he has to do is deny he said it and it turns into a stalemate. This could have legs politically, but I can’t imagine it will get to the point of legal action.

I don't think that we're in a dispute or controversy with the Iraqi government, and at this point having our troops there longer doesn't harm us.

The major benefit of all this is to highlight his hypocricy and irritate the anti-war nuts who think Obama has waffled on this issue. You can attack the turnout of his base in addition to picking up some swing voters.

Appears nobody in washington has the nads to enforce the logan act anymore. Pelosi made a huge public spectacle of going to Syria and nothing happened to her.

Isn’t this beyond The Logan Act if it’s about an ongoing war? Why not treason?

I looked up the Logan Act because I wasn’t up on what it said.....NO ONE has EVER been prosecuted under this act.
It’s another one of those government jokes to keep the peasants pacified.
