RICHMOND Despite a recent poll showing Sen. John McCain taking 50 percent of the vote in Virginia, Sen. Barack Obamas campaign manager says the historically red state still is enormously competitive.
Virginia and North Carolina remain central to the Illinois senators strategy to secure 270 electoral votes and win the presidential election, David Plouffe told reporters in those states on a conference call Friday. Were very confident in our strategy and in our message, and we are focused like a laser beam on states like North Carolina and Virginia, he said. Plouffe added that Virginias viewers will see two new television ads one talking about change and another calling McCain out of touch for, among other things, not knowing how to send e-mail.
President Bush carried Virginia in 2004 with 54 percent of the vote to 46 percent for Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic nominee. Plouffe said he believes Obama can garner more support in Virginia than other Democratic presidential candidates in the recent past. The campaign believes it can do well in Northern Virginia and is showing surprising strength in the Tidewater area, Plouffe said. We want to do as well as we can in the Southwestern part of the state very, very important, he said. Obama has campaigned in Southside and Southwest Virginia three times during his general-election campaign, including his trip Tuesday to Lebanon in Russell County.
Virginia has not backed a Democratic nominee for president in 44 years.

Sounds like the money is drying up. Trying hard to “keep hope alive”.
Yes, but since Marxist Terrorist Hussein Obama has seven extra (terrorist) states, he's sure to win.
plouffe needs to concentrate on states #51-#57 to have any chance of winning..
Mentioning North Carolina in the same breath undermines his case. Increased black turnout will narrow things up a bit, but it'll still be a comfortable McCain-Palin win in NC.

NEW FUNDRAISING PRESSURES EMERGING FOR OBAMA CAMPAIGN
a new sense of urgency in Sen. Barack Obamas fundraising team is palpable as the full weight of the campaigns decision to bypass public financing for the general election is suddenly upon them.
Pushing a fundraiser later this month, a finance staff member sent a sharply worded note last week to Illinois members of Obamas national finance committee, calling their recent efforts extremely anemic.
ah so that is one of the fools responsible for Obama’s senseless cmapaign.
A bag of caffeinated weasels could come up with smarter more coy approaches.
These people are ignoramuses. They're so dumbfounded by McCain/Palin they're resorting to 1960s-era cliches.
“Today is the first day of the rest of the campaign,” Obama campaign manager David Plouffe says in a campaign strategy memo. “We will respond with speed and ferocity to John McCain’s attacks and we will take the fight to him, but we will do it on the big issues that matter to the American people.”

Obama fighting a stomach bug
after a week of trying to break through the Sarah Palin media frenzy, Obama was supposed to hold a big rally with his running mate Joe Biden in Manchester, NH, and then make an appearance on Saturday Night Live. But now, because of Ike, Obama is skipping SNL, and Biden is skipping Manchester.
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki explained, “In light of the unfolding crisis in Texas, Senator Obama has decided it is no longer appropriate to appear on Saturday Night Live tomorrow evening.”
here is at least the hint from Obama aides that he pulled some punches because of the storm (as well as the fact that the Illinois Senator is fighting a stomach bug).

The ad doesn’t say that McCain doesn’t “know” how to send an e-mail, it says that he “can’t”.
