CARSON CITY, Nev., Sept 13 (Reuters) - Out on the road as a solo act, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin fired up a large crowd in Nevada on Sunday by pledging to shake up Washington if elected with John McCain on Nov. 4.
After a farewell rally in her home state of Alaska, Palin flew to the "lower 48" U.S. states to campaign on her own in Nevada, Colorado and Ohio over the next few days before rejoining McCain.
Alaska Gov. Palin, 44, has quickly soared from political unknown to popular Republican politician in the space of two weeks, helping the 72-year-old McCain vault into a slight lead in public opinion polls over Obama.
The Obama campaign, which has struggled to respond to the Palin phenomenon, has issued fierce attacks against her in an attempt to undermine her credibility as a self-styled reformer.
She sought to reach out to voters beyond the traditional Republican base to independents who may well make the difference in McCain's battle against Obama.
"We're going to take our case for reform, that needed reform in Washington D.C., to voters of every background, of every party or no party at all," she said.
Having helped McCain generate large rallies when appearing with him, she showed herself to be a powerful draw as a solo act. Thousands of supporters cheered "Sarah, Sarah."

Glad to see her step up and take it. It’s gotta be hard for her to suddenly deal with these large crowds and intense scrutiny and I admire her for not only dealing with it but actually pulling up a chair and sitting in the lion’s mouth.
It is great if she can turn some marginal states into serious races and force Obama to spend more to defend what he thought was his. If she can sneak the GOP a win in Nevada and Pennsylvania and Colorado all the better.
Where in Colorado is she gonna be?!!! I am just 300 miles from Denver. ANYBODY GOT HER SCHEDULE?
The schedule is always on johnmccain.com
Maybe he quit having the free concerts to draw people in. Saw a picture of him somewhere today and there was a crowd around the stage but it didn't seem very deep.
Read about my Close Encounter Of The Weird Kind with a foulmouthed leftist outside of the Colo Sprs rally one week ago.
Keep a sign of your own in your car trunk for emergency use. ("PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE LEFTISTS" is a good general purpose one that I find works in almost all situations of this type). Or if not a sign, at least think out in advance what you're going to say and do to harass the harassers. If they were haranguing a crowd containing people who really want to hear them, then it would be wrong for you to try to compete with them in decibels. But when they are haranguing people who find their rants highly annoying and do NOT want to be listening to them, then I have no problem with following them and mocking them, especially when they are mocking Bush or McCain or Sarah or the GOP.

The same day, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. hosted a town hall meeting in New Hampshire with a crowd of more than 800.

Did you attend?
I’m not one for crowds. Sat back and watched it on TV.
What did you think?
Don't go, you would double the crowd size.
She’s a winner.
