Solo in Nevada, Palin draws big crowd

CARSON CITY, Nev., Sept 13 (Reuters) - Out on the road as a solo act, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin fired up a large crowd in Nevada on Sunday by pledging to shake up Washington if elected with John McCain on Nov. 4.

After a farewell rally in her home state of Alaska, Palin flew to the "lower 48" U.S. states to campaign on her own in Nevada, Colorado and Ohio over the next few days before rejoining McCain.

Alaska Gov. Palin, 44, has quickly soared from political unknown to popular Republican politician in the space of two weeks, helping the 72-year-old McCain vault into a slight lead in public opinion polls over Obama.

The Obama campaign, which has struggled to respond to the Palin phenomenon, has issued fierce attacks against her in an attempt to undermine her credibility as a self-styled reformer.

She sought to reach out to voters beyond the traditional Republican base to independents who may well make the difference in McCain's battle against Obama.

"We're going to take our case for reform, that needed reform in Washington D.C., to voters of every background, of every party or no party at all," she said.

Having helped McCain generate large rallies when appearing with him, she showed herself to be a powerful draw as a solo act. Thousands of supporters cheered "Sarah, Sarah."

I think that Palin’s selection is impacting Washington state. I read that Dino Rossi (R) is up 5 points on incumbent Gov. Christine Greogoire. Washington may even start to tighten at the presidential level.

I’d love to see a newspaper with this story next to one that says “Tickets Still Available For Biden Rally”

There was supposed to be a pancake breakfast at a local airport but the demand for tickets was so large that they had to cancel the breakfast and move to a larger venue. Wonder how the MSM will cover that.

Shortly after she gave her first stump speech I seem to recall a post that said she would be in Washington State on Sept. 24 (I think was the date). Perhaps just a rumor - but I recall I got excited. Until I realized I’d be out of town :(

I’m still not voting for him. I’m voting for Sarah. :)

Not to me he’s not. I still bash McCain quite frequently to people. The only difference is that now I’m supporting part of the ticket, so I balance that by backing up Sarah.

Granted some people are now soft peddling McCain because of the pick. Kinda hard for me to do when he’s out running ads about amnesty, talking up global warming and stem cell research.

The way I see it if McCain loses but comes close, Sarah is the frontrunner in ‘12. If McCain wins, Sarah is still the frontrunner for the next election. McCain’s just a pain in the backside we have to fight until then. Same as with Obama really.

I think she should audaciously challenge the big “O” to a debate.

I read an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer tonight that had a sour headline about Sarah Palin “The Bloom Will Fall Off The Rose Soon”
The dems are in such pain. I am concerned they will cause a shortage in pain medication.

that would be huge...I’m hoping that she gets to skate with the Detroit Red Wings as they prepare for the NHL season....people really get into that sorta stuff...

and instead of throwing a squid or an octopus on the ice...she could throw a mini-caribou! (seriesly, that would be hugh!)

I remember the threads when virtually all of us used to curse McCain. Now he’s a Saint. Just amazing how things change.

If he's elected, and mentions the word "amnesty," we're going to go ape-sh!t again. I know I will.

They should hit Washington and Oregon. If they can have polls conducted after they visit, Im sure that both states will show McCain tied or ahead. That would force 0bama to come out here and fight for two states he thought were in the bag.

There's a head-to-head in Colorado Monday, While Palin is in Denver, Obama will be in Pueblo. If I had the day off monday, I'd go downto Pueblo just to photo the Obama crowd.

Make sure to wear a McCain Palin shirt.

I agree...the purpose of having her go there is two fold; potentially win the state and force hussien to spend money he didn’t think he would need to spend...

plus she should connect with the people in the northwest...

Well, considering they are down to 2 pts under in Washington, I don’t think it’s crazy thinking to consider us a battleground state...it’s also on the way home for her.

President Bush kind-of wrote us off over the last couple of elections. He’d pretty much only come in for the high priced fund-raisers. If nothing else, it helps the elections here that are close (like Rossi vs. Gregoire) for them to campaign.

I heard it was for a fund-raiser, but if there is a rally, I will take the time off and pull my oldest girl from school.

“McCain’s just a pain in the backside we have to fight until then. Same as with Obama really.”

That’s a rather silly thing to say. Afterall it was McCain who picked Sarah. You ought to be at least a bit grateful. You might start by not comparing him to Obama.

A fund raiser - I think you might be right. Although if we truly are only 2 pts down it might be worth a rally!
