Solo in Nevada, Palin draws big crowd

CARSON CITY, Nev., Sept 13 (Reuters) - Out on the road as a solo act, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin fired up a large crowd in Nevada on Sunday by pledging to shake up Washington if elected with John McCain on Nov. 4.

After a farewell rally in her home state of Alaska, Palin flew to the "lower 48" U.S. states to campaign on her own in Nevada, Colorado and Ohio over the next few days before rejoining McCain.

Alaska Gov. Palin, 44, has quickly soared from political unknown to popular Republican politician in the space of two weeks, helping the 72-year-old McCain vault into a slight lead in public opinion polls over Obama.

The Obama campaign, which has struggled to respond to the Palin phenomenon, has issued fierce attacks against her in an attempt to undermine her credibility as a self-styled reformer.

She sought to reach out to voters beyond the traditional Republican base to independents who may well make the difference in McCain's battle against Obama.

"We're going to take our case for reform, that needed reform in Washington D.C., to voters of every background, of every party or no party at all," she said.

Having helped McCain generate large rallies when appearing with him, she showed herself to be a powerful draw as a solo act. Thousands of supporters cheered "Sarah, Sarah."

I remember the threads when virtually all of us used to curse McCain. Now he’s a Saint.

I think FReepers are pretty realistic about McCain's faults. While he's done some horrible things legislatively, he's been rock solid on abortion, guns, spending, and the military, which is rare, so when people have a chance to look on his good side there's a lot to like.

"Unfortunately the campaign has no more tickets to give away."

"Show up anyway. At the Colorado Springs rally, at first they wouldn't let you in without a ticket, but then they let people in anyway.....There were 13,000-15,000 at the Springs rally despite the fact that it was prominently announced that without a ticket form your local GOP office, entry would be denied. I wonder how many thousands wanted to go, but decided against it when they heard it was ticket-only.

“I really hope the Republicans rally around her like they did around Reagan....”

WOW..this is so great. I am a senior citizen and I really thought I would never see this day.
And to have Sarah Palin is just icing on the cake.
She is awesome.
I can't get away from news and my computer. I just have to know all that is going on. I was depressed with McCain, now he is beginning to shine. He has erased all my doubts. And compare him to Obama..can't do it...there is no comparing.

I really believe that she has done more to help conservatives and decent Republicans, in the past two weeks, than Bush and the entire Republican party has done in the past 8 years. She IS the candidate that can bring victory to Republicans in November. She should keep campaigning with or without McCain...helping GOP candidates. Screw the media interviews. Go directly to the people with personal appearances and 30 min TV buys, in the fashion of Ross Perot.

"I've noticed lately anytime Barry is speaking before an audience you never see shots of the crowd size."

There's a head-to-head in Colorado Monday, While Palin is in Denver, Obama will be in Pueblo. If I had the day off monday, I'd go downto Pueblo just to photo the Obama crowd.

I was at the VA rally earlier in the week. HUGH crowd. And the enthusiasm was contagious. I think people tend to feed off of others’ excitement, so these hugh crowds are wonderful. At ours, traffic snarls and bus line waits couldn’t seem to put a damper on anyone’s spirit.

I think I speak for many here, with the following statement.

It is NOT that we are suddenly in love with john Mccain. Many of us still see him as the “flopper” he has been, as one who seemed to “blow with the wind” whenever it was convenient to do so.

When he was the one who was “victorious” in the primary, a lot of us here were NOT excited, and were tepid on our support. Rumors of him pandering to the “center” and ‘reaching out” with a RINO or even true Liberal VP pick had a lot of us worried—and HAD he picked Lieberman or RIDGE—I, for one (and I am SURE others feel this way too), MAY had stayed home—or at least not contributed or done any campaigning, etc. Maybe(held my nose” and voted for the “lesser of the losers”.

Then...at the Saddleback forum..a WHOLE new Mccain seemed to emerge...One that seemed to, FINALLY, reach out to the “base”. FINALLY, we felt, Mac was beginning to “listen to us”, and he scored some points, and began to rally the base.

But then..it once again appeared that he was going to appoint a liberal like Ridge or Lieberman for VP—or, at best—Romney. Such a pick would not energize the base. There was a “long shot” out there, named Sarah Palin, from Alaska, who had been in the “mix” for about 6 months or so—and she would be a great pick, many of us felt. She could neutralize much of the “wow’ factor of O, and since he had picked an old, worn-out, retread named Joe Biden, known for gaffe after gaffe—Palin could REALLY show that Mccain was serious about a true conservative VP pick—someone who had true conservative beliefs across the board. But —we all felt it was a longshot. And up till a couple of weeks ago—it was. Even the night before the “big announcement” Mccain did a “rope-a-dope” making it look like it was Romney or Lieberman. with Romeny—we would settle—but with Lieberman—we might Walk.

THEN..the big announcement in Dayton..and suddenly...
EVERYONE is energized like they have not been since the Reagan days. And with good reason. Sarah represents a new future foe this country. IF Mccain wins..SHE will most likely face Hillary in ‘12..and Sarah WILL be in a very nice position to take her on.

So..NO..we are NOT suddenly “in love” with Mccain..we are in love with Sarah. Mccain just happens to be the “stepping stone” for this beautiful, intelligent Lady, to reshape the conservative movement, and probably the women's movement—for a LONG time.

Rape is way too mild to describe it. They want to butcher her. The unbridled hatred is palpable. They'll keep throwing stuff, waiting for the death blow from the AK RAT conducting that bogus investigation in Alaska. No matter what the facts, the MSM will declare her Guilty! Guilty!!Guilty!!!

I would much rather GOVERNOR Sarah Palin spend all of her time in battleground states with only 7 weeks left to election day.

I’ll say one thing. John McCain has made the greatest comeback in political history, a darker horse than even James K. Polk. I remember the threads when virtually all of us used to curse McCain. Now he’s a Saint. Just amazing how things change.

McCain is still McCain. We'll get the weasel elected and then deal with him.

You bet. But not with this media- it'll have to come from supporters. America's Pravda has joined with Obama and, like elections in communist countries, there'll only be 'one' candidate running.

I have had my local 'rag' (Sacramento Bee) delivered daily for years. And I don't even read it- my wife does.

However, if Sarah doesn't get front-page exposure like one would expect of such a phenom, I'll suggest we cancel it. I really don't want some socialistic, communistic propaganda being left on my driveway. I ain't no comrade.
