Everyone's always talking about how an aging population, with more retirees, is going to wreak havoc on Social Security and the federal budget. Here's my question: What impact will that have on the planet? After all, my grandparents don't seem to care much about global warming, their refrigerator is from the 1970s, and they use an awful lot of air conditioning at home. Give it to me straight: Are Grandma and Grandpa bad for the environment?
"Do it for the kids" has always been one of the most popular arguments in favor of environmentalism: Older people need to get their act together, or else it's the children who will suffer the environmental consequences. Indeed, in terms of what they buy and how they vote, younger Americans tend to be more eco-conscious than seniors, who are less likely than anyone else to believe that global warming is a man-made phenomenon. But here's the weird thing: In practice, it's the older folks who are better for the environment.

I think we are a spoiled nation. As for "global warming" most of those brainwashed youth and those that brainwash them are hypocrites. They are the biggest energy gluttons of all, and waste even more trying to get their global warming message out.
How does a 'global warming' rock concert help global warming? thousands of people drive their cars to an arena to the event. At the event, tons of garbage is produced, mega voltages are used to light up the place, power huge amplifiers, and of course the event promoters sell all kinds of propaganda, memento's, all of which takes from the environment. "Musicians" jet in from all over the place, burning tons of jet fuel, while fleets of semi trucks take the land route hauling all their roadies and equipment.
What a bunch of hypocrites.
They should promote that all their fans stay home and download their music (for free) instead.
This Grandpa is very bad for the environment....very very bad! New F-150 V-8 crew cab to pull the eco unfriendly bass boat to terrorize the bass at Lake Fork. Air Conditioning running at 5am....you know just living the life. Why not???
Didn’t work 40 years to sit on my ass and sweat in a hot house, afraid to drive the truck, cutting coupons....geez

much better power for hauling that 5th wheel trailer around.
What are they saying, euthanasia is a good idea because the elderly aren't green, and, tangentially, are a drain on the socialist system?
This is a sad commentary on America. Another post pointed out that X Gen will be totally unable to support themselves if the power goes out or if an “actual” economic depression comes again and they have feed themselves.
Luckily, there are some, although not anywhere near enough, in the X Gen that are and will be capable of fending for themselves. A historic view would probably show similarities to previous times when the “15% ers” saved America. I believe things in America are like a pendulum, more often are too far one way or the other and we are only at our best now and then when the pendulum is in the center. For the past 60+ years the left has been dominate to some degree, let's hope their momentum is gone and common sense can prevail once again.
They vote, too, and in larger numbers than any other demographic:-)
Carbon-phobia ping...
The 85 year old man living next to me thinks President Bush is causing global warming.... He is such a big liberal...
He actually told me I can’t use my Bar-BQ because it’s an ozone day...I told him he was nuts... I’ll do what I want..
Funny how pirating music is better for the planet than going to a concert or buying CDs.
Pulling your fishing boat to the lake helps but unless you plan to cook steak, chicken or burgers on your grill at home, you’re not doing all you can to warm up the Earth.
And bake some chocolate fudge for the ladies.
And tell your grandkids to buy you a bigger boat.
:-)
My thoughts ran to "Wild In The Streets"
Gramps knows how to defend himself. Everytime I get out to the pistol and rifle range I see 10 times the number of gramps as compared to youngsters. They won’t go quietly into that “green” night. ;^)
“Is Grandpa Bad for the Environment?”
This question does not even deserve an answer.
This is standard libthink. Once a person has stopped working and contributing to society and it becomes inconvenient to care for that person, then the local 0bama Youths will escort the person to the recycling center. Shades of “Soylent Green”.
Shouldn’t there be a Soylent Green ad here somewhere????
No Jacob, your grandparents aren't, but your parents are!
Because they had you!
There...fixed it.
You are my kind of GRANDPA!
