Palin's bubble: Will it bulge or bust? (Wishful thinking from MSNBC's Chuck Todd)
MSNBC ^ | September 12, 2008 | Chuck Todd, Political Director, NBC News

Posted on 09/12/2008 7:12:14 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Stock brokers will know exactly what I mean when they see the word "bubble" attached to the name Sarah Palin.

The Republican Party is riding quite the high.

In fact, if I were a pollster wanting to deliver good news to a Republican client, this would be the week I’d want to put the poll in the field.

Here's a good rule of thumb for the next few days: If a Republican candidate isn't in the lead in a survey conducted right now, he or she can’t win in November.

The combination of an excited Republican base and a depressed Democratic one has created for the first time in nearly four years the appearance of an environment where the GOP can win.

Burst her balloon? But big questions remain: Is this Palin bubble going to burst, and if so, when?

And if it does burst, will it be a full-fledged bust?

Will the collapse be reminiscent of famous internet bubble stock drops like DrKoop.com and Pets.com? Or will there be a soft landing, like with AOL and Amazon?

I hesitate to speculate too much right now because I believe this political environment is artificial. And it won’t last.

Still, it's clear Palin has dramatically changed the dynamics of this race. With the election just over 50 days away, things could change very quickly.

That being said, Palin has energized the Republican base and that enthusiasm will last through Election Day.

Energy means...

It would take a massive slip-up by Palin to depress the GOP at this point. And this Republican energy means a few things:

Some of the traditionally Republican-leaning battleground states (like North Carolina, Missouri, and possibly even Florida and Indiana) which weren't leaning McCain thus far are looking like McCain-leaning states again.

Exactly! And they're too dense to look at their own polling data. I want them to continue to believe Obama still has a chance. The payback will be all the sweeter on November 4th!

Bubble? Palin? Talk about projection. Here's Obama's chart, it looks like the chart of a dotcom stock in April of 2000!

Uhhhh...Chuck - why is it not the case that if Barack Obama isn't ahead in the polls in the next few days then he can't win? You know the answer.

Back to the show: Now we have Stephie pulling the tail end and all I can say is Torie Clark is on ABC because she is a horrible defense counsel for Palin. My God, Dee Dee Myers gave a more intellectually honest answer about the demeanor of Palin, especially on abortion. Clark was claiming Palin looked too scripted. Newsflash, Torie: you don't just shoot off at the mouth when your every word will be parsed to infinity, especially when you are a Republican.

Well now on to, ughh, Nightline.

Chuck doesn't get it. It's McCain/Palin. Palin is to get the base on board and also appeal to those, especially women, who want change from Bush, but not a radical punk like Bacrock.

McCain will take control soon. He's experienced. He's presidential. Obama is a punk.

Dick Morris says that once you have a change in trends in a Presidential election, it is really tough to get another change in direction.

Let us hope this prediction holds more than one of his recent ones: Hillary vs. Condi.... right, that worked out well, ha, Dick!

I caught a minute of Keith Olbermann tonight saying that a conservative friend was on the fence, but after watching the interview last night his friend said “no way” to McCain/Palin. He said that a lot of the conservative base would turn against them after that interview. After the election, they’ll have to haul him off to a nice, quiet place for some rest and medication. He may never come out of his depression. Chris Matthews will be joining him. In fact, after the election the sale of Prozac and Paxil may go way up.

So what is the latest over/under on how soon Obambi throws Biden under the bus? I doubt Hillary would be willing to get on board this year.

Chuck Todd is a lightweight and people in Washington know that he never liked McCain, as Olbermann admitted on live TV.

He belongs exclusively on msnbc...Brokaw should get his empty suit off of NBC.

Jay Leno just spent most of his monologue making fun of Palin. The MSM will do its best to take her down either thru misinformation or ridicule. They were successful doing that with Bush.

There is no bubble, chuck. The girl is for real. Your Messiah, Hussein, is the one with the bubble. And it is bursting, and has been, since McCain ignited a fire under people like me—conservative to the core—and decided this election was worth fighting.

Write the article about the MESSI-UH.

I don’t think Hillary would be dumb enough to jump on the Titanic after it rammed the iceberg.

They are taking on water and the Captain is clueless.

If Hillary won’t join the ticket he gains nothing by dumping Biden and hurts himself even worse.

MSNBC are the musicians on deck if you are following my late night analogy here! : )

Another good photoshop opportunity?
