Several drives were for "platelets only". Any medico in here explain that please? Is there a different procedure for donating?
Platelets are the valuable clotting factors found in the serum. These are collected from a donor through a device that filters out the red blood cells that are returned to the donor. A trauma patient that has bleed extensively may have used up all of their own platelets and an infusion can restore the ability to clot again.
