Metro Link train in flames...dozens of ambulances en-route to the scene...
Yes. Hazmat is on the scene.
Our house borders the Reagan Library property and our next-door neighbor takes Metrolink to/from work every day. Waiting to see if his car appears — hope he took an earlier train.
So glad you are safe. Hope Gary is too. This is just awful. Prayers up.
The freight train did not have any hazardous cargo as far as I know — strawberries. However, they have been fighting smoldering fires in the engines and I’m sure diesel fuel leaks need to be controlled.
I was watching channel 5 and it looked like little kids on two of the stretchers. Not sure as the shots were from a helicopter.
6 confirmed deaths thusfar.
I do so hope you’re wrong on the fatalities range.
Thank you. I think this has always been in the back of most So.Cal. residents that one day this would happen. Prayers for everyone.
FYI - The train before this one left Union Station at 1:10 PM. The next train after that was the 3:35 train that crashed. Passengers are being detrained in Northridge. Busses are being provided, but most people are getting rides home (or sharing rides home with others).
BTW, I misspoke earlier. Bob was conducting this train. (Gary was on another train) Bob is the one to be praying for. (but God knew that)
I will be surprised if the fatality count is below 10-15. It just looks so bad. I mean that whole car is rammed inside the car behind it.
Then again, I’ve seen incidents where you think the fatality count is going to be high, and then it’s not so bad.
Villaraigosa just spoke and said there were over 100 injured (including minor injuries) and siad there are 10 fatalities.
He achknowledged there will probably be more before it’s all over.
My great grandmother used to talk about how bad train crashes can be. Telescoping is a big problem. Sometimes many cars telescope into one.
Chilling.
KFI said 7 a few minutes ago. But the fact that there are still people in that first train can’t be good.
It looks absolutely awful.
Awful coincidence -- Chatsworth, Illinois, was the site of a terrible train wreck in 1887. Also a telescope. 85 fatalities.
Heartfelt prayers for all those involved.
Uh oh, yes, I just heard 10 fatalities. How sad that there is now a hotline for relatives to call... The doctors probably don’t know who they have, and people are wondering about their loved ones.
So sad.
I am guessing most of these people are from the Moorpark area or farther?

350 would how many seats on the three cars. They do allow people to stand. This near the halfway point on the route so some will have gotten off at earlier stops.
