I’ve been following the buoy data, too. It is quite daunting.
The buoy just outside Galveston bay - say 5 miles - now has 40kt winds at sea level now, and 17ft waves. It is going to be getting much worse, for sure.
Yeah... but the drag would allow the ship to act like a sail, and point the bow to the wind (to some extent). Better than nothing ... (God only knows how much better, though)
Ping to this post.
Only prayer can save those guys on that ship now.
“The OFFICIAL forecasts are frightening as HELL!”
SHHHHH...don’t tell that to the Democrat lady mayor of Galveston. I just watched a news conference she gave on TXCN and she said she doesn’t want to scare ‘her residents’..(eye roll)...when asked about the NWS predictions of ‘certain death’ for those that stay...she poopooed the idea..even though water is rising all around her!
This woman is making Nagin look good folks!
She is an idiot leading her people to slaughter.
I heard from another FReeper on another hurricane thread that the jails are not empty yet.
Any news on that? What about the hospitals and nursing homes?
Seeing what Katrina did a 100 miles in on Mississippi, I wouldn’t be joking 30 miles inland.
There's a really interesting and long story behind that; apparently there WAS no hurricane "party" - just some people gathered together, and the survivor hasn't been entirely truthful over the years.
How did the ship end up in that situation. Were they trying to get out before the storm hit?
The loss of life is going to be bad. And very sad.
Nauti, I appreciate your hard work on this event. I'm reading it faithfully....I live in Florida and am up in Illinois for about three more weeks.
I hope the chain of hurricanes is broken soon giving me a chance to break out of here and drive the 1200 miles through the south to my Sunshine State abode......without freaking out at every dark cloud appearing on the horizon as I drive~!

I actually took it as a compliment..... ;^)
In Galveston? That should have happened yesterday. The infants and small children from UTMB Galveston were airlifted to San Antonio yesterday.
So you're 30 miles inland and you've been representing yourself as if you're out on Galveston Island?
I hope your brave bluster hasn't persuaded anyone in harm's way to stay put.
“Are ghosts allowed to be silly?”
I think that’s in the job description, yes. ;)
Thank you very much!
You cant win my friend, you cant win.
You cant win, so why even try?
If youre lucky enough to live thru today
Tomorrow you will die.
Yep. Massie’s Mill was basically gone after that. I think the “new” settlement that goes by Massie’s Mill is in a slightly different spot.

NautiNurse,
Where did you grab that pic? Is it a functioning web cam? I am trying to find out about my favorite hamburger place called SW Tookies. Not far from there. I hope Tookies dosent get swamped!
