Report: Palin Asked Rick Warren For Advice
Posted by Vaughn Ververs| Comments5
GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin called influential pastor Rick Warren earlier this week to ask for advice on how to handle the criticism that has come her way, The Hill reports.
In a California radio interview, Warren said that Palin had called him to seek help in dealing with the unfair, unjust attacks she said she believes had been launched at her since being tapped as John McCains running mate. Warren recounted the conversation, saying he responded by saying, the question I asked her was 'how can I pray for you?'"
Warren said Palin asked him to send her some bible verses on how do you deal with the unfair, unjust attacks and the mean-spirited criticism that comes in."
A lot of what’s going on about Obama is also being debunked. Don’t believe what you get on e-mail about him.
The fact remains that:
1. Unless these news reports of quotes are either blatantly false or very distorted, that Warren said, "Well, actually, she called me yesterday ...."
I know prideful bragging and namedropping when I hear it (I do enough of it myself, or at least used to do it a lot more! It's an ugly habit that I humbly seek to break). That Warren said anything at all smacks to me of betrayal of confidence, of being indiscreet, of disregarding the dignity and privacy of someone who turns to him. I don't care how openly he declares his Christianity. He didn't ACT, to my way of thinking, like anything but a guy I'd stay away from.
2. THEN it turns out that Warren called HER first, and that the "she called me" he was referring to was a RETURN call to his query. Quix, no matter how you wash it or paint it or angle it in the light, THAT IS AN UGLY THING FOR A PASTOR TO DO.
Those two things on top of the personal experiences and exposure I've had in a peripheral way with Saddleback megachurch here in O.C. and the folks who endorse it, of Warren's bally-hooed AIDS "awareness" drives instead of seeking TRUE good, like fighting against anti-family law divorce/custody legislation that creates fatherless kids and emotionally/finacially inpoverished dads in American society and for 35 years has alienated and ruined relationships between fathers and their kids -- THAT would take guts and being disliked to battle. The cause of fighting bad, unfair, and horribly destructive divorce laws in this country (laws which have probably lead to much experimental homosexuality in insecure, fatherless boys) is not a popular cause. It's NOT endorsed by rock stars, as is AIDS, though it is a much more immediate and DANGEROUS breakdown of Christian mores than AIDS. Warren doesn't battle THAT, nor does he battle the normalization of homosexuality. Instead, he seeks "dialogue" on homosexuality and AIDS, and has widely publicized events that newspapers sing to the glory of one guy: RICK WARREN.
Quix, the man's actions have for years indicated that he is a phony, and this thing with Palin is just one more red flag. His words, writings, etc., all cite God, but his actions cite and benefit the pride and worldly affection for Rick Warren. Again, I agree with Blogger: Rick Warren is BAD NEWS.
This is all the more worrisome because you are right, Quix, Warren is perceived and embraced as "Kind of an ... inoffensive Norman Vincent Peal approach to attracting folks to the idea that GOD HAS A PURPOSE for each individual ...." So he approaches the unwary and the easily led looking harmless and untainted. Yet Warren has demonstrated repeatedly that he seeks to control and guide that purpose, and that is NOT Godly. It is dictatorial. I'm all for being judgmental, but on the same terms that I judge myself, and my experiences with Warren's mentality is that he encourages a judgmentalism that is hypocritical, ugly, and divisive. I sense no love in it; love is with Jesus Christ and salvation is through an individual relationship with Him because of His loving forgiveness, which we learn to extend to ourselves and others; Warren fosters group relationships guided by Warren's advice. He is BAD NEWS ....
... and the FACTS of this incident ("Actually, she called me yesterday ..." presumably for advice, when in fact she was returning his call to her) are FURTHER CONFIRMATION that he has the wrong things at heart.
Thanks for your kind words.
You make some worthwhile points.
I’m still skeptical that he’s as black as seems to some.
Certainly God knows and will account most thoroughly.
Appreciate your insights.
AHA. See, you can never believe what the news media has to say about a conservative or a presidential candidate. People really screw things up and we look stupid answering their screwups. Better to let things play out.
Fortunately you are not the judge of his salvation. We have a tendency to believe anything bad about a religious person that is told to us by the MSM. We need to silence our tongues until we know all the facts.
I know all I need to know, he is in the tank for Obama and wont take a stand on aborting Gods Children, so save it for Sunday!!!
Off your meds today, Friend???
Bishop Warren, like Bishop Jim Bakker, or for that matter Joey Bishop, don’t hear no confessions!
No , no meds here. Rick Warren has tried to make the abortionist Obama acceptable to the Christian community. Obama is a enemy of Christ and Warren is trying to get him elected President.
Where is your outrage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No outrage here. It’s all in God’s hands, friend.
Obama is a enemy of Christ. Obama represents evil. Please defend him to someone else. I stand by all I said. ENOUGH ALREADY!
Otay, ‘panky...
I don’t defend Obama, not at all. That’s up to God, not me.
Well put Quix. All of us that call ourselves Christian and attend church are one Congregation. I encourage all to read the bible yourselves, a few pages at a time from cover to cover. Whichever bible you prefer. You will notice it is like watching a good movie, with a start for mankind and a glorious never ending relationship with God. You may also notice that some of your denomination’s beliefs may not be entirely scriptual in all facets. So I back you up Quick on what you were saying that what we as men and women may throw stones at and spend much time in rigourous debates between denominations is a lot of wasted time. Paul dealt with similar situations in his day as well and stated to use reason and stop squabbling with each other. The world is growing increasingly dangerous. Love on another a Christ loved you. That means you love all men, minister to one another needs no matter what denomination they are. Conversions to your own specific faith are far less important then doing the work, buying a neighbor a meal, holding that door open for an old lady, taking care of the fatherless boy. Do those things, then see if there is time to squabble about your denomination. I bet you won’t find the time :)
Thanks for your kind affirmations.
The RC’s don’t realize that they have you to thank for finally convincing me this was The Lord’s message to me.
Bless you.
