Report: Palin Asked Rick Warren For Advice
Posted by Vaughn Ververs| Comments5
GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin called influential pastor Rick Warren earlier this week to ask for advice on how to handle the criticism that has come her way, The Hill reports.
In a California radio interview, Warren said that Palin had called him to seek help in dealing with the unfair, unjust attacks she said she believes had been launched at her since being tapped as John McCains running mate. Warren recounted the conversation, saying he responded by saying, the question I asked her was 'how can I pray for you?'"
Warren said Palin asked him to send her some bible verses on how do you deal with the unfair, unjust attacks and the mean-spirited criticism that comes in."
I dont know why this was a big deal.
He called her, she called him back,,,he said How can I pray for you? and she said sarc. give me some bible verses for people attacking me.
end of subject. its all in how you interpret
He wants to think she needed him...helllloooo you called her!
Before losing respect you might want to wait to see if this is even true. It doesn’t make sense for her to ask RW for advice- why wouldn’t she go to her own pastor?
I think this is more B.S. myself.
I don’t buy this. Sarah Palin’s religious beliefs are based on a much more solid foundation that Rick Warren’s. I think Rick Warren is trying to use Sarah Palin to sell more books. He is known to do that, as we all know.
Sara should read the Psalms of David
Psalm 109 comes to mind
1Be not silent, O God of my praise!
2For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues.
3They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.
Rick Warren has become , or always has been self serving and this kinda shows that .
That’s because he unfortunately has a tendency to live up to their expectations, Quix. I know you like him, but RW is bad news.
I just don’t think God has a negative perspective of him.
He’s not perfect.
Nor is any other human spiritual leader I know.
With his associations with the CFR, Tony Blair’s Faith Foundation, and the political establishment, not to mention his promotion of pseudo Christian cults and non-Christian religions through the spread of 40 days of purpose campaigns (which he has personally been involved in), I think he could be the false prophet. He is also at least partially responsible for the destruction of many many churches and the broken hearts of many saints across this nation. Again, Warren is bad news. I would revisit my support of him if I were you.
Just the same, Blogger, even rethinking with Quix's input, I'm totally with you on this Warren red flag. As I rethink and reflect on the times I've come in contact, however peripherally, with Saddlbeback here where I live and work, I only find myself more perplexed because this bad-smelling thing from Warren (why would he even bring it up? "She called me yesterday ...") was, from my POV, predictable. He's a phony-balony, even if he is sincere.
Quix, my own experiences are on the outer fringes of Saddleback. There is a stench there that smells good at first, and the closer you get to the megachurch mentality, the more you want to stay away. The opposite of you, Quix, in niceness and charity of heart.
I'm with Blogger. Warren is bad news.
Thanks and may the Lord bless you for your kind and thoughtful words. BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD for anything good in any respect.
I don’t know what kind of mixture RW may be close up and personal.
I have heard from convincing folks who are in close range.
I have expressed great concern over the CFR stuff etc.
Folks have railed against PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE.
It’s very BIBLICAL. Folks can draw closer to God and involve HIM more intimately in their lives by following its assertions. I don’t consider that bad, at all.
51% or more, it SEEMS that MOST of RW’s priorities are Biblical.
Is he being seduced by the globalists—possibly.
Is he evil hearted? I don’t think so.
Ought we be alert for corrupted stuff in all corners of the Body of Christ—certainly.
The ROT is everywhere. And, usually, I find the greatest puss pockets of rot in the prissiest contexts, ran by the most self-righteous of supposedly starchy white leaders who are MOST fiercely ‘doctrinaire’ in their supposedly ‘Biblical’ pontifications. I’m not impressed. None is righteous, no, not one.
IF THE PRESENCE OF GOD is not tangibly and ‘routinely’ [as though God’s PRESENCE could ever be routine] OBSERVABLY OBVIOUSLY THERE IN A CONGREGATION, in a service, I’m increasingly not willing to be bothered.
I don’t care if the label on the door is A of G that I was reared in; Vineyard that I greatly respect; by the book squeaky clean by the numbers Calvary Chapel; the very excellent Four Square folks influenced by the wonderful Jack Hayford . . . or whomever.
IF GOD’S PRESENCE AND ANOINTING are not overtly present—at least the majority of the time . . . I increasingly want to be counted out or to do other more profitable things.
And probably 99% of the folks throwing rocks at JW have NEVER been in a congregation or service where the TANGIBLE OVERT PRESENCE OF GOD ALMIGHTY’S ANOINTING HOLY SPIRIT WAS OBVIOUSLY HAVING !HIS! WAY BEGINNING TO END—and the leaders had the good sense to go along for the ride.
I don’t know if JW has. I do believe he has captured SOME of God’s priorities in his writings and in the way he HAS run his church. Whether he’s going increasingly askew, or not, I don’t know. I am gravely concerned about the CFR etc. influences.
I don’t think a lot of what folks throw rocks over is the same thing that God would throw rocks over.
I’m not per se JW’s champion. I don’t mind defending him on a lot that he appears to do right and against mindlessness that seems to be outraged because he doesn’t do things THEIR way. I support any and all that he does Biblically in Behalf of The Kingdom.
I deplore anything UnBiblical and globalistic in support of globalist agenda.
If you can ever articulate succinctly what the smell is about, please let me know.
Thanks tons for your thoughtful msg.
God’s best to you and all those you love.
I don’t know if you have seen this doc, or not but you may find it usefully informative:

Finny, I agree about Quix. I like him a lot, even though we aren’t in 100% agreement. He’s still a cool guy. Just think he has a blind spot re Warren.
Thanks for your kind words.
I respect your perspective and heartily invite you to continue to exhort me wherever you feel fitting.
Thx.
Just don’t expect me to roll over and play dead to every assertion on your side! LOL.
I wouldn’t dare ;)
On a personal gut level, to put it bluntly (!), I sense snobbery and elitism. Perhaps a righteous snobbery, but snobbery just the same. An out-of-touchness, a hardness, a spiritual competitiveness. Like I say, the opposite of you, Quix.
And it's puzzled me. I read PDL prepared to be gripped -- the book fell into my hands like destiny! Instead I felt alienated, and I couldn't figure out why.
So just a few minutes ago, searching around on FR, I came across a thread posted by Gamecock on Sept. 5, with a piece for Extreme Theology (?) by Chris Rosebrough.
Rosebrough starts basically saying he was unsettled to hear Rick Warren declare that "Repentance is the central message of the New Testament."
In the article, Rosebrough further writes:
Jesus himself, in Lukes version of the great commission instructs the disciples to preach a twin message of repentance AND the forgiveness of sins in Jesus name. I pointed this out to Pastor Warren and told him that what is conspicuously missing from his sermons (I listen to them all) is the forgiveness of sins in Jesus name. Furthermore, I gave him examples from his own sermons where he gave practical how to information but never once dealt with the most important application of how Jesus Christs death on the cross applies to me and how Jesus Christ forgives me of the all the times when I have sinned and not been obedient to God.
The problem with Purpose-Driven Preaching is that it emphasizes naked obedience but the message of Christ crucified for sins is almost always omitted.
This approach blurs law and gospel and makes it appear that we are made right before God by our own efforts.
Another poster, on another thread forgotten, pointed out that leading a moral, charitable life is the fruit of salvation, not the path to it. Salvation comes only through Jesus' sacrifice.
Good points.
I found the PDL decent enough, as far as it went.
I considered it an evangelizing intro tool more than in-depth theology.
I felt the basics were there . . . IF one knew what one was looking for.
Thx.
In terms of elitism . . . SIZE tends to cultivate a deadly amount of that. Also, notoriety.
I don’t know that RW is guilty of elitism . . . seems that he and wife decided early on that if fame ever came their way—they’d shuck the bulk of it’s perks . . . still live in the same house, drive older plainer cars; live on a fraction of the income etc.
However, the congregants and lieutenants tend to love to puff up stuff as it helps them feel like SOMEBODY. There’s deadliness in that.
It takes a VERY, VERY ,VERY RARE leader to keep his humilty AND RARER to manage to infect persistently a congregation of any size with such a mandate, tone, SOP, way of walking the walk.
I think John Wimber did it better than anyone I know. Jack Hayford also about the same.
And the Four Square fellow in Eugene OR now dead who spawned so many churches with his ‘disciples.’ He managed to do it well, too.
Very few have.
I think I found PDL [only read maybe half to 2/3rds of it . . .] I found it . . . the opposite of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.
Kind of an . . . in-offensive Norman Vincent Peal approach to attracting folks to the idea that GOD HAS A PURPOSE for each individual and it’s a great thing to get on board with that.
That IS a Biblical concept and a good one to run with . . . as long as one doesn’t get stuck or give up along the way to becoming an intimate disciple of Jesus.
Thank you for sharing your insights, dear brother in Christ!
And thank you for your encouragements Dear Sister in Christ.
Why? People ask for help and encouragement all the time. Warren is not an evil man. Much of what I read in his book was practical and helpful. If she’d asked Obama, or his pastor, I would worry.
