JMO but I think Houston will do what they need to do and will be ok.

Most people will... I'm sure. But, from what I'm hearing.. they are being really slow this time to prepare. Many schools are still in session. My sister is still working today at the Dental School.

After the traffic disaster that was Rita... I think, many are deciding to stay home. For most people, that's probably a good idea. But, for people in range of the surge.... well... have a good look at Biloxi on Google.

"Witnessing a convoy of utility trucks from other states en route to assist after a storm...puts a lump in my throat every time."

...and, a song in my heart when they're coming to help me. (We treat them well too)

BREAKING NEWS: Gov Perry is rushing toll booths to all coastal egress Interstates. He's feeling magnanimous, though, and will levy only a nominal fee of $3.75(sorry- exact change only and positively no pennies!) on those wishing to escape Ike's fury.

I just took pictures of every room in the house. My washer just quit... won’t spin or agitate. We’re emptying the water to see if something is stuck where it shouldn’t be.

My Dad lives in East Texas (Quitman, about halfway
between Sulphur Springs and Tyler ... ~30 miles north
of Tyler).

Looks like it is projected to go right over him now.
But hopefully it will be a wimp by that time.

I know when Hurricane Goose-Step (Gustav) went by
us here in D/FW, we got some pretty good winds (about
40-45 mph), but no rain cuz it passed well east of us.

Should the current track hold, a direct hit on Freeport, my house is about 65 miles due north of the impact area.

What should we expect as far as wind speed assuming a cat 3 at landfall?

Anyone with more hurricane experience have an idea?

"Anyone with more hurricane experience have an idea?"

Well, I live on the Alabama coast, on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay and Katrina was rough. Ivan's eye passed right over us and there were times when Katrina felt very much like Ivan, just for a much shorter time period. Ivan we lost power for just a few hours..Katrina for several days.

Right now the AL/MS coast is experiencing flooding from Ike being 350 miles to our south, if that helps.
