yea... I know. They don’t go door to door to force people to leave. But, they do start to control the traffic flow. You CAN’T always leave in the directions that you want...

That was a big part of the problem with the Rita cluster-up.

I'm on the west side of I-45 (Gulf Freeway) about 8 miles from the freeway near the intersection of FM 528 & FM 518. I'm closer to the Alvin city limits than I am the freeway.

Elevation is 42 feet - the drainage district jokingly calls this area "Mount Friendswood". We didn't flood during the TS Claudia which dropped 43 inches in about 24 hours, so I think I will be OK.

Unless your sister owns one of the 3 story concrete homes around there... NO WHERE in League City is safe.

That entire area is now likely to be covered with 10-15 FEET of sea water.. plus wave action.

Take a good look around you... and think: “Where do I go to be safe from 10-15 foot waves?”. The answer is probably: “No where”.

Get in touch with your sister and tell them to get OUT.. ASAP!

I’m getting a little concerned about the new evacuate at the drop of a hat mentality. When the storm comes you need the people who need to evac on the roads and as few others as possible. In Rita, Houston had hundreds of thousands who didn’t need to go on the roads, blocking it up. The bus that exploded was from an assisted living center that would not have flooded. The media whipped people up into a panic, imo.

In my town, we receive reverse 911 automated calls, with threats that electricity will be cut off prior to the storm.

and right now they are all in Louisiana working on gustav

Yup. I was in Little Rock when Gustav hit and made its way N into Ar. The state had thousands without power for an extended period because they had sent roughly half their resources S to LA.

Ok... that's good. Then stock up on Oreos! And.. batteries.

When my first son was born, we lived very near you.. in a condo just behind the State Farm agent that has the lighthouse. :-)

And.. BTW.. it was T.S. Claudette... and, yea.. it was 48" in 24 hours... if you stayed dry then, you're good to go!

Everything is good here so far. Humble ISD has not cancelled any school (Dumb @sses). I am torn between leaving or hunkering down. These towering 80 foot pine trees are a major concern. Tell DH Hi for me and stay safe.

Very true about Fov Perry. He has been the very first in all these storms including NO to get the buses and supplies staged for every storm but Hannah this year. Texas does do a great job and I’m sure they have all the coast towns evacuated and a safe as possible.

Agreed... During Rita, people in CONROE were evacuating for goodness sakes...

I think... they are tryring to improved things by doing "phased evacuations"... most people near the coast were told to get out yesterday. Now, they're moving inland.

If they are on the Harris County side of Friendswood (east of Clear Creek, it does usually flood. Kerrville is a good place to be in this event. My daughter lives in New Orleans and they were here to ride out Gustav after a 14 hour drive to get here and they left Friday afternoon, before the evacuation was called.

You guys on the upper Gulf Coast have certainly have had more than your fair share of these things the last few years.

Hey ST, I hope you’ve battoned down the hatches there. We are on evacuee alert here again. The city is growing everyday and we’ve run out of room. It started with people from Port Arthur area and has spread all the way to Corpus.

It’s been tough finding rooms, but I called the churches again and they are helping out with some of their dorms and other facilities.

Stay safe!

Thanks! :D

I took screen-caps of her arrival in Fairbanks last night, still looking for a place to show them. She pulled me out of the election doldrums that's for sure!

"In my town, we receive reverse 911 automated calls, with threats that electricity will be cut off prior to the storm."

Which reminds me. Cordless phones do not work when the power is out so always keep a corded phone on hand!

Just something I learned from experience. lol
