The Barack Obama campaign accused their Republican opponents of a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card" tonight with the McCain campaign's demand that Obama apologize for a remark made earlier in the evening.
Obama used a "lipstick on a pig" metaphor this evening as he tried to tell voters why they shouldn't believe John McCain and Sarah Palin when they say they represent change.
"Enough is enough," Obama senior adviser Anita Dunn said in a statement e-mailed to reporters
"The Mc Cain campaign's attack tonight is a pathetic attempt to play the gender card about the use of a common analogy - the same analogy that Senator McCain himself used about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan just last year," she continued. "This phony lecture on gender sensitivity is the height of cynicism and lays bare the increasingly dishonorable campaign John McCain has chosen to run."

Obama is also no student of history.
If it was “just” the gender card Geraldine ferraro would have gotten the votes of women.
Obama, were he a real student of political history, would be asking what is the difference between ferraro and palin? The answer is one is a conservative.
The lesson of every single presidential election is that conservative wins elections.
“The people there knew it was a reference to Palin”
And it was intended to be. Meanwhile, Obama’s supporters are laughing themselves sick over Palin the pig.
Oh so now all of us insulted women are pathetic too. Do these peopel EVER stop digging? What a POS!
Obama attacks Palin and McCain snidely, but when they retaliate, they pull a non-existent ploy of accusing them of using the ‘sexism card’ and calls “Enough” when they respond?
Obama reminds me of the guys who sneak a punch in and then calls for a truce.
Weasel.
Thanks for the fabulous sign for my car!!!
I love it!!!
Yes, like he subtley gave Hillary the finger.
He’s a coward who only knows how to attack as a passive aggressive ninny. And then when he gets called on it, gets indignant and says “Ok, everyone just stop” when he is the only one doing anything. I wish I could describe it better, but he so much reminds me of my ex-husband. He would pick a fight with me and after getting his hits in first, when I reacted, would say “We need to calm down”. Yeah, easy to say after you got yours in!
Does this make sense to anyone else?

I also never seen any kind of gender attacks that are as horrible as

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS??? We're not using Palin’s gender against her, not at all. It's cynical for you to say that... Yeah McCain might have said the same pig/lipstick line a year ago, but I never saw a picture of Hilariously Clinton wearing that. Oh and for any “religious zealot” women like Palin, which she is a “religious zealot” according to the article, any of you happen to go around wearing that in public, or private??? They don't say she is one, but look under the Title of the article to see that she's “like” one. If both Obama, and McCain were to get on-stage and agree that no one should vote for either candidates based on genders or skin color, there’d be no “you're racist” or “using the sex card”, then that’d be better for Obama's image.
Just the fact that the Obama campaign is having to deal with issues like this, tells you a LOT about the state of the race.
They are completely off message, and have lost their way.
Why does he even continue to debate the republican VP? McCain and his staff have to be high-fiving and laughing it up behind the scenes.
Obama is so thin skinned. All McCain or Palin have to do, is go after him a little, and he just cracks. Look at his responses lately. It started with the “celeb” ad. Making fun of Obama and comparing him to Brittany/Paris. What is the first thing Obama does..... claim this is a racist ad.
Obama is just floundering around. This bridge to nowhere line is just that .... “going nowhere”. Palin canceled the project after she became governor and got all the facts. 80% of Americans get that. Why can’t Obama and the MSM. And the reason McCain hasn’t hit back on Obama/Biden actually being the ones who voted for it? Because they are going to zing them during the debates.
People aren’t just pro Palin anymore; they are flat out angry. A lot of women I have known for years, who never really get into politics, now all they do is talk about Palin. And they love her, and her life story, her family. They say she is just an average American, who made it. Didn’t have a family pedigree, money, or go to some fancy law school. So many women have come up to me angry about how Obama and the MSM are treating her. Today a lady at work was so steamed the the MSM was out there making an issue of her speech at church. In 20 years, I have never even heard this woman say anything political. Now, she is ready to go pick the NY Times.
There is something massive going on out here in America.
Obama knew exactly what he was doing. It is not coincidence. He thought he was being witty and sly about it. But the crowd immediately got the connection between the pig and Palin.
Regardless, the Obama campaign will have to deal with this issue for 24-48 hours. Just what they don’t need right now, another distraction.
Really?
Well someone forgot to tell the Obama supporters. LOL!!! Guess that blowback knocked him on his arse requiring a strong backpedal.
Well in the rock scissors paper of politics does the race card trump the gender card ?
I suppose the answer is obvious.
Well the fun part is that after McCain/Palin win that Obama has to go back to the Senate and I’m sure that someday in the future Mr Todd Palin will go looking for him and I don’t think Obama will like what he came to deliver! ;)
Totally makes sense. And you’re 100% correct about Obama.
Those people will be a big part of the reason for Obama’s loss in November! They are immature and nasty and America doesn’t want that in a President.
Which would be calling Palin a pig. Now, many bloggers have called her a pig or worse, sometimes on ABC blogs without having their remarks removed. But Beckel isn't just some blogger.
Then I found this on DailyKos, dated 10:00 AM PDT -- 1pm eastern, is this before or after Obama's remarks?:
Which reminds me of the old saying, "You can't put lipstick on a pig." But can we call Sarah Palin a pig? No.Interesting that the guy asks if we can call her a pig, and now Obama is maybe doing just that, using that phrase.
THen there's this reference from September 3 in a newspaper the Deseret News?:
In the end, the selection of Palin, and the defense of this decision by McCain, his party, and the far right is simply trying to put lipstick on a pig (no, I am not calling Palin a pig, and acknowledge she is rather attractive except for her annoying squeaky voiceThat's twice people have said "lipstick on a pig", and immediately realised that without qualification, they would be seen as calling Palin a pig. So it seems that it's commonly known that saying "lipstick on a pig" in reference to Palin would be calling her a pig.
You’re right language cop.
Seriously though, I appreciate the correction.
LOL--I always thought that referred to the weight of the baby!
I don’t know about anyone else, but this garbage is getting very tiresome. I and most of the people I work with(libs)have stopped listening. The dems have revealed their true colors and if my coworkers are any indication, it has worked in OUR(Pubs) favor!!! I can’t believe how very ugly this race has become. Shame on these people!!!
Continue to pray for the McCain and Palin families.
I know. That’s why I visit every election season. It cheers me to know end.
I get the feeling Obama “HOPEs” the subject is “CHANGEd” tomorrow.
