LEBANON, Virginia (AFP) Democrat Barack Obama late Tuesday launched his most scathing attack yet on his Republican White House rivals' reformist credentials, likening their approach to putting "lipstick on a pig."
"We've been talking about change when we were up in the polls and when we were down in the polls," Obama told a rally here as surveys suggested John McCain and Sarah Palin have overhauled his lead for the November 4 election.
"The other side, suddenly, they're saying 'we're for change too.' Now think about it, these are the same folks that have been in charge for the last eight years," the Illinois senator said to a crowd of 2,400 people.
"You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig. You can wrap up an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. It's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough," he exclaimed to a standing ovation.
In accepting the party's vice presidential nomination, Alaska Governor Palin joked at the Republican convention last week that the only difference between a hockey mom like herself and a pitbull was "lipstick."
True to the pitbull tag, Palin has been savaging Obama daily on the campaign trail as McCain presents their Republican ticket as true change that will shake up Washington, salvage the economy and protect the nation from foreign threats.
While Obama rallied voters in Lebanon, Virginia, the Republicans earlier were in Lebanon, Ohio, where Palin repeated her widely queried claim that she had said "thanks, but no thanks" to a notorious "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska.

Never. They are nazi's first, liberals second ... being or actually caring about women are far down the list, well, except maybe as potential dating material.
We're talking affirmative action here ... diminish it substantially.
I’m not interested in change to a socialist State. I don’t want Obama’s little leftists telling me what to do. That seems to be what he has in mind.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
‘’Great new protest idea...for the ladies...Swallow your pride...go to NObama rallies......and put on lipstick wile he speaks...”
Stiff drink is essential for this FReep. If he insults either Sarah or John in this fashion again, get up ,turn the back and depart quickly.
I have been trying to laugh off Obama’s comments or chalk them up to him not really appreciating what he was saying. But it really isn’t possible. He’s an Ivy League grad who, supposedly has been sensitized by his own experience with this sort of treatment. And by the way, he is a candidate for President of the United States. This is beyond the pale.
Tells you how well he "runs" a campaign, especially one on the down trend.
I can’t remember who, but a Black woman who writes for a liberal newspaper stated that if Obama loses, then there should be race and class riots.
She was basically encouraging rioting.
It was a week or so ago and I didn’t bookmark it, but I believe it was in the Atlanta Constitutional Journal.
But don’t get excited over the “Lipstick on a pig” remark.
Obama will get a free pass from the media.
This doesn’t change a thing.
The media is waiting for Palin to have a “Potatoe” moment and will then run it 24/7
They will ignore the ever growing list of Obama gaffes, but will skewer Palin as soon as they get a chance.
Bank on it.
The youtube video says Lebanon VA. I thought it must be OH too when I saw it because I did not think anyone could be so stupid as to insult a lady in VA. I grew up in small town in VA, they are not going to like this one little bit.
Nice spin, Agence France Presse.
The context of the video is different.
Hannity just brushed it off???? What is with him, on his radio show he seems tough but when he’s on Fox he must tone it down. I’ll hear what he says tomorrow but I’m surprised that he’s not rolling with it.
Notice that there were only 2,400 in the crowd? And that was the MSM’s estimate. When McCain/Palin came to Liberty MO on Monday, there were people camped out all Sunday night in the rain to see her.
riots?...BRING IT ON!
I am one who has an offbeat sense of humor and my mouth has gotten me in trouble all my life, nearly 70 years. I really suspect this was a spur of the moment idea that occurred to him and he thought he could pull it off, coming off with some humor points.
I could easily be wrong, but the way he said it really sounded to me like an attempt at being funny gone awry. Lord knows I know that feeling! Nothing comes off as badly as a joke gone bad.
Let's see what happens, it could get pretty interesting. For the record, I still say he will not be the one on the ballot come election day, it will be Hillary. Don't know how she'll pull it off, but I have faith in her and Billy Bob to find a way.
Correct me if I am wrong. :)
