Obama gets ovation with ‘lipstick on pig’

LEBANON, Va - Democrat Barack Obama enjoys poking fun at his Republican opponents and their claims to being “agents of change.”

“You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig,” he said as the crowd cheered and yelled and eventually got to their feet.

“You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still gonna stink.”

“We’ve had enough of the same old thing.”

The audience, which had a particularly strong reaction whenever Obama mentioned Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, appeared to enjoy the “lipstick” comment the most.

When Palin gave her acceptance speech at the Republican convention in St. Paul she joked about being a hockey mom, saying the only difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom was lipstick.

You and I both know that he uses the term "fish" for women as a quite normal thing to say, and we both know what sub-group in our society does so.

You'll hear more of this stuff as he knuckles under to the pressure of the campaign. Maybe he'll put on a bit from Kiss of the Spider Woman.

I think you saw only the abbreviated video where the next couple of sentences concern FISH and STINK.

It is absolutely inescapable what he was talking about, how he was talking, and why he talks that way.

Didn't you watch her RNC speech, where she said about hockey moms (herself included), that the only difference between them and a pit bull was...lipstick.

What kind of a rock would someone have had to have been hiding under not to have seen that? Seen it, heard it, read it. I know the line. I know that she used it.

None of which changes the fact that a) it's an old cliche (and I'd have to see some really compelling evidence to buy this "started in the homosexual community" meme - I don't think that the homosexual community had fed much into the language of rural Maine 40 years ago when I first heard it) that b) Obama has used before, c) he made no mention of Palin in close proximity to using it and d) it was not at all a strained cliche in the context in which he used it.

Again, I'm not going to debate whether he was thinking about her when he said it. He may well have been (though I think he's got a strong tendency to speak in familiar cliches when forced to speak extemporaneously). I'm arguing that it doesn't matter. There is nothing inherently offensive about the phrase, the context was appropriate, and since I abhor the left flogging thought-crime, I don't want to see it from the right, either.


And, just to make it clear, I think Barack Obama is the scariest Presidential candidate since George McGovern. I shudder when I contemplate the possible ramifications of an Obama Presidency. But there are many good and legitimate reasons to vote against him. This is just noise.

I can’t wait for Charlie Gibson to bring this up to Palin tomorrow to put Obama to bed for good. He meant what he said, and the Lefties are thrilled over it. See the DU string over it at the bottom.

BO’s never actually run against a person before. He usually gets them thrown off the ballot so he can run unopposed. If his competitors knew how easy it would be to rattle him, Ryan would have sailed to the Senate seat.

P.S. - BO completely blew it on Keith Olberman, the easiest and friendliest show to his campaign. KO should have sent the rattled and depressed candidate home with a valium.
