Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.
Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Ike near South Central Coast of Cuba
If it’s over 88 degree water now will it intensify or is it too near a land mass?
Yeah that was it thanks.
It's almost like the desert! ;o)
TANKS,NN,,,
Looks like IKE mite go rite back over land,,,
The edge of the eye seems to have crossed the coast,,,
Heading NW ?...
Official track now reflecting models. More westerly.
Maybe the depth of the water will keep it down,,,
It was CAT-2 when it went back over water,,,
Forecast was a drop to CAT-1...
Looking a better for LA.
sigh
Well at least I will be able to fly out of Miami on Friday but I will be leaving a mess here for my people to take care of.
Oh boy ... I remember all those Andrew rumors,
which a cop I knew tried to dismiss.
But you just know ... with all the illegals up
for the picking, living in trailers .. common sense
tells you there was NO way they survived ...
especially east of US #1 and way out west in
Florida City where they lived in camps.
Confused about the “bad guys” .... which ones ?
Death toll in Haiti is currently 58 for Hurricane Ike; over 600 deaths in Haiti due to hurricanes this season.
Lookin’ baad for Corpus Christi...:0/
Looks like just north of CC about where Indainola used to be before it got wiped out by a Hurricane
Yikes .. hope the night isn’t bad. These
things at night were always the scariest ..
can’t really tell what’s happening outside.
Prayers for you and yours, rod ... are you
comfortable staying?
Another group of illegals obtained legal alien status following Andrew by learning to say, “lost green card.”
the Hatians have sure taken a beating.
it put things in perspective when you look at it like that.
Quell surprise ... /NOT!
I have a feeling many, many
more likely lost their lives
tho.
After that vicious monster,
if they survived in a labor
camp, I wonder if I could blame
them.
Company coming.
