I was discussing the election with my son.
We were talking about the use of ‘articulate’, and ‘intellectual’.
My son said It’s totally racist when they say that. And they don’t even know it. What are they trying to say?
“Oh my gosh, look what we got here. A negro who can talk, and went to college. Imagine that. Who’da thought?”
As always, this is said in complete honesty, and not intended to be an insult to any of my FRiends, or any readers.
I have described George Will as articulate and intelligent -- not an intellectual because Will doesn't regard himself as an intellectual. In a posting a few days ago, someone suggested a number of Black conservatives who could fill various cabinet positions, one of whom was Thomas Sowell. My response was, "just let Sowell fill them all."
Is there anything racsist in the nature of either of these remarks to Black people? Because there certainly is nothing racist in the nature of either of these remarks to a white person.
