This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story.

“What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags,” a Republican official emailed. “We estimate the total number to be around 12,000 small flags and one full size 3×5 flag.”

I’m not sure what the DNC was supposed to do with unused hand-flags, frankly. But the Republicans are obviously questioning someone’s patriotism here.

When I was a Boy Scout, we would get up long before dawn on Memorial Day. Our leaders would drive us all to the nearby military cemetary, where the American Legion would supply us with flags to decorate each grave.

It was a great demonstration of pride and appreciation to see those many thousands of flags in the morning sun.

When we were done, the Legion would serve us breakfast. I doubt that there exists any Boy Scout who could not have found better uses for these flags than the DNC found.

If we combine this with the flags in the dirt photos of Biden and Bomas kids and the DNC convention it's a slam dunk.

Sometimes photos are far better than words!! We can destroy the rats with this stuff it has to be used.!!!

This really turns my stomach when you think about how many of our guys and gals are fighting for that flag and losing their lives every day to see them dishonored this way is truly sickening and someone should pay!!!!

Use them in the rest of the campaign. Or, if they clearly had more flags than they were going to need, offer them to the Foreign Legion or--for that matter--to the RNC. The 'patriotism' points they could earn would outweigh the dollar value of the flags, at least if they were interested in patriotism.

Great photo but the DNC has issued a statement saying they were not recovered but STOLEN by the McCain Camp to use as a political prop. Let’s hope we have witnesses who aren’t afraid to tell the MSM precisely where they were found.

How would McCain people have gotten in there without credentials to steal them? If they were something they wanted to keep, they would have had someone watching them. That’s what you do with valuables.
