Sally Quinn Does Complete U-turn on Sarah Palin
NewsBusters ^ | September 6, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

What a difference a few hours make. It is almost like Sally Quinn was blinded by the light of truth on the road to Damascus. On CNN's "American Morning" on Friday, Quinn repeated her doubts as to whether Sarah Palin could "put country first" due to her family reponsibilities as a mother:

Everyone woman I know practically is a working mother. We have conflicts and guilts that men simply don't have. And, basically the burden of raising children falls on the mother, no matter what kind of a job she has. So, I think that to, you know, we're so far beyond the feminist argument here. This is not about feminism, it's not about sexism, it's simply about can you do the job? One of the things I noticed over this last convention is John McCain, they must have said it 1,000 times, I put my country first. He put his country first. And I think if you're talking about the commander in chief and that is what she is likely to be given his age and his health. Will she put her country first, or will she put her family first?

Well, something must have happened in the few hours between Quinn's CNN appearance and her apology for her own statements like this on Fox's O'Reilly Factor later that day:

Last week, the dems thought they would successfully torpedo Palin. Now, they know it won’t happen.

The US loves Palin, and the lies are finally being exposed along with the marionette.

If Palin becomes VP, Sally Quinn knows she will be on the sidelines socially unless she makes nice with the Gov. now.

O should be very worried. Sally Quinn has a feel for who’s gonna win.

Actually after watching the entire interview of Quinn by BOR, she basically went back to an attack on Sarah. As Miss Didi noted on another thread

She still ended up saying that

"Sarah is a woman with five kids, one of which is a disabled child, who need an enormous amount of time and effort. “I need to know as a citizen—will she put her country or children first. You can’t do it all.”—

The first phase, where the new candidate gets to define her public persona is largely over. They've lost that phase -- thanks to Sarah's political skill, natural talent and their own heavy handedness.

Those points are certainly true however the stealth and surprise of the unexpected choice was a strategic nuke.

It knocked the enemy on his ass and he had no opposition research and prepared advertising with which to counterattack.

In their desperate scramble to shoot back at a surprise choice, the Dems badly overreacted with false and sexist accusations and wrong-headed attacks which thrust them into a terrible public relations nightmare from which they cannot extricate themselves.

The short time between the announcement and Sarah Palin's fantastic speech gave the opposition no time to organize. The smears were so mean and desperate, all of the careful and tedious fabrication of Obama's message of his being a "new kind of candidate" blew up overnight.

All the vicious trashing did was to make sure the whole country tuned in to see Sarah's magnificent performance on television.

There is the smell of fear from sea to shining sea. The Democrats have filled their diapers.

The phenomenon is rolling quickly across this country like an unstoppable hurricane. The Democrats can do little but watch and pray their houses don't get blown away.

"We have conflicts and guilts that men simply don't have."

Can't argue much with that. Each day I simply tried to crush my enemies, drive them before me and hear the lamentations of their women. But then, everyone else was trying to do the same.

"And she told BOR to call her Sally and not MS Quinn."

"Come all without, come all within
You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn
Come all without, come all within
You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn"

I think Quinn has been listening to too much Manfred Mann.

And then at the end of that video clip she seemed to be trying to take the apology back or at least get back in the good graces “of the arrogant media beltway crowd.”

Ll the vicious attacks certainly increased her audience to way above what it would have been if they had not panicked.

This dried husk is now crawfishing. New York has been described as a town full of hard people with soft interiors. Washington is the other way around-A town of soft people with hard interiors.

Sarah has to watch out for these weak, soft backstabbers. They're dangerous the same way a sissy in prison is-you can dominate them, but they'll stick a shiv into your back when nobody else is looking.

Palin is one of those rare crossover hits in politics. She surprised the Dems and they kneejerked in response. However, Palin’s popularity is strong even among Dem females and even they are not going to sit by and let Palin get savaged, no matter who tries. I honestly believe that Quinn and others who kneejerked are getting some hellfire heat over their comments.

"What we are now hearing from the Left is that Dads are not good enough to be the full-time parents and that women are not meant to have jobs."

This is great fun to watch the Dems getting that old time religion. What next? Girls should stick to home ec and avoid math classes?

"she will try to destroy Palin - first will faint praise and then with "serious questions."

And that is where the alternate media will jump in. Congressman Billybob made an excellent point in a column the other day. When people like Quinn start posing "serious questions" to Palin, two questions need to be asked. Would they ask the same thing to a man? Would they ask the same thing to a Democrat?

That’s an amazing argument, really. Splendid.

It’s okay for you to rip into Palin with all misogynous barrels blazing because, according to you, the rest of us would behave like a bunch of creeps too, if it were only Michelle Obama doing this instead.

Amazing.

Good point. Not only is Todd on the job - and appears to be very capable at that - she has Bristol, Willow and even Piper who I am sure do a lot of the physical care of the baby as well. Bristol will have her own baby soon, and is starting a new life with her hubby-to-be, but there’s still Willow and Piper.

Everybody keeps saying, how can she do this with five children. But the oldest is now an adult and isn’t even home anymore, the second is soon leaving home, the third is almost grown up, and the fourth looks like she’s coming along just fine in spite of her mother’s public life.

My sister had a baby after the youngest of her oldest four was five. She barely had anything to do because those four older ones *fought* over helping to take care of the baby.

Trig is in excellent hands and has better care than most babies. If this was Sarah’s first baby and had no other kids and/or an absent husband, I too would be really concerned. But given the circumstances as they are, I’m not.

Dear WoofDog123,

“Change the party tags and imagine how members of this forum would react to Obama’s wife dragging out young’uns during a campaign speech, particularly a newborn with downs syndrome.”

The Obamas, of course, don't have a 4 month-old, but I have seen their two lovely daughters at campaign events. They are 7 and 10 years old, still rather tender ages, especially the younger one.

I haven't seen any criticism of Snob-ama on this account, and don't believe I will see any.

But, of course, he's a... you know - he's a... man. So, no one would ever think to ask or express similar concerns.

There is an aspect of sacrifice to being President or Vice President of the United States, and it is a sacrifice borne by every member of the person's family, whatever the age.

I am glad and grateful that there are men and women willing to make that sacrifice with their families, especially when those men and women are as patriotic, as America-loving as John McCain and Sarah Palin.
