Palin is 'Ronald Reagan in a dress'

SARAH Palin was hailed as “Ronald Reagan in a dress” yesterday — by the former President’s son.

Michael Reagan, 63, said watching the vice-presidential hopeful was like seeing “my dad reborn — only this time he’s a she”.

Palin’s stirring speech at the Republican convention on Wednesday night was watched by 40million people across the US.

And Michael, a broadcaster and writer whose father was President from 1981 to 1989 — said: “I’ve been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan. I insisted he was one of a kind. I was wrong!”

Describing Palin’s speech as “electrifying”, he added: “Welcome back, Dad, even if you’re wearing a dress and bearing children this time around.”

The 44-year-old mum of five — dubbed the Pitbull in Lipstick after being chosen as John McCain’s running mate for the November 4 election — laid into Democrat candidate Barack Obama in St Paul, Minnesota.

Reagan added: “This was Ronald Reagan at his best. She proved she was everything, and even more, than John McCain told us.”

Depends, Goldwater was anti deficit, and anti Religion in effecting government, that is a bit of McCain, not the whole package, but there are elements.

I’ve got to say, I look back on those MSM stories about McCain need to dump Sarah Palin and I laugh...hard...she ain’t going anywhere, let the Reagan Revolution’s progeny meet today’s challenges....

Why does Hillary never wear a skirt or dress?

Any more questions?

But she prefers dowdy pantsuits to make her look tough as opposed to appearing feminine.

Palin gave a very good speech. Overall, a top notch performance. Impressive for a newcomer to the national political scene.

If Ronald Reagan was around today, he’d be doing what most conservatives are gonna do on election day. Vote for the McCain-Palin ticket.

But Mike Reagan saying that Palin is Reagan reincarnated, is off the wall nonsense.

When I think of Goldwater, I think of this quote:

“The turn will come when we entrust the conduct of our affairs to men who understand that their first duty as public officials is to divest themselves of the power they have been given.”

I like to test politicians by it. According to his speech, McCain clearly fails. I cannot remember Palin’s speech in enough detail to say whether or not she fails. I just wish there was a politician with the guts to stand up at a convention (or a county fair, for that matter), say something as brief and powerful as the quote above, then sit down and let it sink in.

Goldwater's quote is errant libertarian nonsense - a pipe dream. Its goes against human nature to expect men to ever relinquish power - the most we can do is limit it and provide safeguards against its abuse.

Note: The slogan was originally posted to FR by Renfield. Islander7 created the graphic. I've merely taken the initiative in publicizing it. It's so good, it may well be the "Sore/Loserman" of the 2008 election.

If you want change in Washington D.C.

I mean you really want change.

Do you vote for the Fighter Pilot and the mother of 5?

Or do you vote for the two Lawyers?

“Sarah looks good in a dress or skirt. I don’t think Hillary can make the same claim.”

Hillary might look ok in a blue dress but I bet even Bubba would kick her out of the Oral Office.

Yes, yes, I understand you completely. All I want is for someone to SAY they’re going to divest themselves of power. Can’t we have that tiny bit of consolation.

I remind you, Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and moderation in the prosecution of evil is no virtue...

That is what I recall about Sen Goldwater:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_NXXDVtNbA

This conversation, the recalling of Conservatism’s roots, in that Mike Reagan could be right, these are not dusty old Shibboleth’s, far from it, somehow, we let these roots be taken away from us, it took Sarah Palin to remind us of the Intellectual underpinnings of what we are all about.

For that, Mike Reagan deserves a tip o’ the hat and the jar.

I disagree, the Govt is not our friend, we must constantly demand that they divest themselves of power over or lives and our families, we should never make it easy for them to grab such power from us...EVER.

The way for conservatives to attract new conscripts is to talk about liberty, I feel. Everyone knows Republicans are the party of national defense: liberals ensure that. We need to remind people that we hate Leviathan (or Fedzilla, as Ted Nugent calls it).

As much as Goldwater’s “extremism” was a pipe-dream, at least it was a challenge. When Reagn got into power and fulfilled the modern conswervative promise, he didn’t do much of anything to permanently change government. Though he cut taxes, he didn’t cut spending. Pure libertarians are right to denigrate his achievements. But he was a dreamer, damnit. He inspired people.

one thing Ronald Reagon is great at and does it often is he actually EXPLAINS to us why taxing the rich its a bad idea in great detail. The example of the fat and thin man, and attacking social programs that seem to keep growing and the number of poor keep growing with no score card is something RR does alot

The current Republicans never explain why, only that we support small government, low tax and then leave it at that

There was a great book my father bought, called “In His Own Hand,” or suchlike, which consisted of Reagan’s handwritten notes for radio broadcasts. They weren’t Edmund Burke or William Buckley, but for a professional politician, they were golden.
