I think there are an awful lot of Americans out there who only pay attention to politics every four years who did not know McCain's story. If so, he should get a bounce in the polls from some Indie voters.
If not, he misjudged the electorate and the critics of the speech will be proven correct. We'll have a pretty good fix on where the race stands by Monday.

Unfortunately, I fear there may be a great many that didn't bother watching. I was visiting a friend this evening and they didn't even have the convention on. I suspect they are Democrats. The wife made a comment about Bush sitting back and counting all the oil money that he's making from the war in Iraq.
Why oh why do people say such stupid things like that? I said I doubted that he was making any money off Iraqi oil, but that IF he was, then he was probably sitting next to the Dem Rockefeller who owns a lot more oil. We pay for the oil that we import. Why do people think that we are taking their oil free of charge? It's infuriating, to have to explain the simplest of things like this. IF Iraq didn't want to export to the US they could stop. We can't force them to export their oil to the US.
Anyway, she said she didn't like Obama and probably wouldn't be voting at all.
