I had dinner last night with a Republican-leaning independent who was despondent over John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. She had been looking forward to supporting McCain as a fiscal conservative with a deep understanding of foreign relations. But all she could now see was that picture of Palin's pregnant 17-year-old looking defiant and stupid as she held mom's fifth baby.
Many religious conservatives are jubilant. They regard Palin as a swell choice because her high-schooler was going to have the baby. The line sent my friend into shock. This is not a matter of abortion politics, she said, but of managing one's own affairs.
"Don't they have birth control up in Alaska?" she asked....

Not likely, since steve-b seems to share the author’s feelings that Sarah should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.
Exactly...especially considering Froma was a big John Edwards fan.
It is amazing that a leftist such as you has not been banned yet. Your posts are right out of the DU playbook.
You’re hilarious, steve-b.
Don’t worry, FReepers- if there’s an anti Palin article out there, steve-b will make sure we see it here on FR.
I’m a firm believer in learning about candidates warts and all- koolaide is way too sweet for my tastes.
You just keep on sowing those seeds of doubt...the fresh air Palin is bringing to the GOP is blowing those seeds into a dry wind.
Gee, aint America grand? Dimwitted fools like Froma Harrop makes large bucks with totally misguided, ignorant analyses like this while I have three years to go to retirement making a lot less. Like every abortion-rights-trumps-everything feminist this nitwit thinks McCain picked Palin to win her over. Hey Froma!!! He did it to get the base back you hapless twerpette. If there are voters who were going to choose McCain because he’s the maverick they’ve been looking for, I doubt too many are going to ditch him for picking Palin. In short getting back the base is far more important to McCain than trying to woo a few dissatified Hillary backers or moderates.
“Harrop”...Isn’t that a sort of half-belch you do after eating too much? OK maybe that’s just me.
The name Ima Harridan was already taken?
I think it’s a typo. It isn’t the author’s name, it’s quoting the source, “from a harpy.”
Hey, steve-b, I hear Michael Moore hates Sarah Palin too. Can we be expecting a Michael Moore piece from you anytime soon?
Remember Dane? Say hi when you join him in the land of the banned.
Ms. Harrop apparently is associated with the Providence, Rhode Island Journal. She may very well think her friends are “Republican-leaning” independents, but in that (very small) part of the country, that’s pretty much left of Joe Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, and Adolf Hitler.
I’m not sweating the loss of these two “Republican-leaning” independents.
This woman bases her whole opinion on the word of some anonymous Republican-leaning independent and claims it is proof of some "mood" among independents.
She then follows with canards about lobbyists, some figure of $4,000 per resident without citing any sources, hails Pelosi for waiting to run for office until her children are grown, etc. etc.
What Governor Palin did last night by chiding the MSM is guarantee that they would continue laying out false canards, distort her record, but most importantly, continue to highlight that she has more valid experience and accomplishments than Obama while continuing to show a double standard towards working women if they are Republican.
Bring it on.
Foaming Trollop and her imaginary friend can have another dinner after the election. I hear the crow is delicious.
Having lost out twice, I think Romney can’t wait to get back to his normal, productive life.
Does this mean that Tiller the Killer and Kathleen Sebelius won’t vote for Palin? She has kicked away the NARAL vote?
I’m shocked, shocked.
OK, you guys have me stumped. What is a PUMA?
