What did we see tonight?
Tonight, we either saw a watershed in American politics, a tour de force, the most striking and graceful debut in our nations political life, and a national introduction that makes Barack Obamas 2004 convention address look like small potatoes or we saw what we wanted to see, and the countrys persuadable independents saw something else. Im afraid to believe. If Im wrong, I dont really know what Americans want. I know conservatives are thrilled to pieces, and they ought to be. She knocked it out of the park. I dont think she could have delivered that speech any better. Even if I hadnt suggested a line, I would say that the speech hit almost every note just right. (Did the Obama fans feel this way? Is this what their exultation feels like? Wonderful. Im glad they get to experience it too.)
My e-mail box is thrilled. Cam's Talkbackers are thrilled "you called down the thunder, and now ya have it."

New catch-phrase...
Zerobama...
I mean ZEROBAMA... sorry, I forgot to shout...
It was “Hockey moms” and I had heard it before. She may have originated it though.
Missing from this great photo, a son from each family on military active duty.
Maybe I misread Noonan’s excuse of her words, but I took her to say that the people who chose Palin (as if McCain didn’t) were using the same kind of thinking that was used in 88 and 94 and that they were behind the times. She basically compared the choice of Palin to the choice of Dan Quayle. Noonan proved today what hubby has always said of her. She’s a moron. Well, I can’t say what he really says. heh.
Was VP pick Sarah Palin's speech effective in introducing herself and boosting John McCain's campaign?
Yes. Her speech proves she is ready for an all-out fight.
No. She spent too much time trying to mock Obama.
It remains to be seen what she can do on the campaign trail without a teleprompter and speech writer.
As of now it is 50%/30%/18%. Gotta love choice #2 & #3. Especially #3 since Obama has become the new "King of 'Uhhhs'", taking over from Ted Kennedy. Howie Carr used to always have short snippets of a Kennedy speech/presser and it was up to the audience to guess first how many "uhhhhs" there were. The mantle has been passed.
“ZERObama” works for me!
Think he’s crazy enough to be anywhere near her tonight?
In every setting in which those who procure camera “talent” gather there will be the reaction “where did this woman come from.”
There a literally only handfuls of people who command such camera attention, and most of them are hollow personages offstage. Her combination of pure animal appeal, presence, talent, and aggressiveness stamp her as dominant female of the pack. The pros who work in this wide field of public relations (cinema, politics, sales, etc.) are probably in awe of Palin, and the whole package that she brings.
One last note. You can see her basketball past surface tonite. Coaches tend to focus on their point guards, ride them and challenge them in order to develop poise in the most adverse conditions. Palin has absorbed those old lessons, and barbs of the ilk of the Rachel Maddows of the world pale in comparison to the boot camp tactics she took from her coaches. She’s a tough customer with knockout looks that camouflages it.
See Post No. 7.
I want that as a poster on my wall!
“Think hes crazy enough to be anywhere near her tonight”?
I’m thinkin’ she FORCED him to watch Palin tonight. I’m certain he didn’t mind, except he was probably getting pummeled at every applause.
That is why I was floored when Campbell defended Palin three different times I counted tonight.
You can bet I’m replaying that part for my wife. We have an autistic (Asperger’s) child.
Awesome speech.
Welcome, Becky. I, too, lurked for years before I posted. Good line from your husband!
PMSNBC is a joke and irrelevant. The morons on that program were falling all over themselves at the Dim Convention, with one of them having tears in his eyes (Can’t recall which one was crying) over Obamessiah’s speech. This is one of the reasons they will lose this election. Americans are not that foolish to fall for that fluff, especially when this country is at war.
I’ve just been reveling in all the comments here so am very late to this party.
I just loved her, have done since I first heard of her about two months ago (which would be AFTER McCain first vetted her, Alan Colmes!). She truly took the worst the professional chattering class could dish up, whipped it into a fine meringue and tossed it right back at them (the sound they then made is what happens when you get meringue you didn’t expect).
One thing I really liked about the later analysis: Chris Wallace read out the Burton ‘official Obama response’, to which Brit Hume, after a subtle roll of the eyes said, “Well, perhaps they’ll come up with something a little less...familiar...when they’ve had some time to think about it.”
Fortunately, I was already on the floor.
God bless all, and God bless John McCain and Sarah Palin.
I must say, I like what I see in Palin so far. Let the games begin!
And she didn’t have to have a Greek temple, fireworks, and yards of streamers to enhance her presentation.
Had to look up Wasilla in Googleearth to confirm that I had been there — yep, sure was, even ate at the Dairy Queen there! Hatcher Pass is beautiful!
I just can’t help to think about how much Shrillery must be foaming at the mouth that she’s not the Presidential Candidate, nor the VP candidate, nor even relevant. I have a huge smile on my face just thinking about this.
