Excerpts: Remarks by Alaska Governor Sarah Palin Vice Presidential Nominee to Address the 2008 Republican National Convention

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - This evening Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican Party’s vice presidential nominee, will address the 2008 Republican National Convention. Excerpts from the governor’s remarks, as prepared for delivery, are below.

On her experience as a public servant:

"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities."

On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:

"I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:

"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems - as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines...build more nuclear plants...create jobs with clean coal...and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."

On John McCain:

"Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

Before Barack was in the Senate, he was a community organizer. I’m not sure what they do exactly. Earlier this week, Obama denegraded her experience to that of just a small town mayor and ACTUALLY used his “experience” at running his campaign as more experience then hers. I think she is hitting him back for the dig he laid on her.

I’m sorry... I’m not getting the “community organizer” dig. Can some one explain?

Seriously? You're not aware that one of the cornerstone jobs of Barack Obama's resume is Community organizer? Have you just awoken from a year-long coma?

Sorry, reegs, but geez, pay attention!

They'll say she threw a hissy-fit.

That should go over big with the NAGS.

reegs, obama’s “job” before he ran for a seat in the illinois state senate was as a “community organizer.” no one as yet has been able to figure out what exactly a “community organizer” does, but apparently it gave him enough experience to believe he was qualified to be president.

I know, I know... it’s hard to keep track of all of Barry’s mediocre qualifications. I beg pardon.

“I’m sorry... I’m not getting the “community organizer” dig.”

That is one of the few items on Barack’s weak resume. But nobody is really sure what a community organizer is. He was one in Chicago’s Altgeld Gardens public housing project in the mid-1980s (kind of like the “Good Times” TV show). My guess is that is when though his “coke” stage.

I have a feeling this speech is going to decide the election.

With all of the coverage in the last few days, record numbers are going to tune in just to see who this lady is.

If she knocks it out of the park, which I believe she will, she's going to gain a whole lot of votes!!

Go Sarah!!(One of my all time top favorite names, BTW. Really!!)

Could someone tell me when she is to speak? I have a late night in the lab and my wife hates politics so I may need to have her set the DVR. I know that there are many good spekers tonight but I don’t want to miss her.

No problem . . . I'm just a bit testy after going through the last couple of days of the nonstop, 24/7 hit piece cycle . . .

I’m sorry, but I would have told the media, and I mean all the media, you want to the speech? Governor Palin goes on at 9PM CDT (or is it 8PM MDT?). Watch and listen. We don’t do your job for you.

“Community organizer” is one of the few job titles that Obama can say he held.

What does it mean?
In Chicago?

The term “Thug” comes to mind.
