Michael is missing one point:
If Palin does withdraw, then McCain's judgment will be questioned. That will feed in to the dementia allegations, etc. That will give the Dems even more ammo against McCain-XYZ.
If Palin is forced to withdraw, a Romney replacement will not give McCain a win in November.

Savage's callers are already doing that -- questioning McCain's judgment.
If the Savage callers are already questioning McCain's judgment for selecting Palin, the Dems will have a field day doing the same, if Palin is forced out.
