The Pakistani Taliban says it has kidnapped two Chinese telecommunications engineers and two Pakistanis and that abductions will continue until the government stops attacking militants.
The two Chinese and a Pakistani driver and guard disappeared near the Afghan border on August 29 as they were returning to a guest house after repairing a telecommunications tower.
China is a staunch ally of Pakistan and a major investor and the safety of Chinese nationals is a priority for any Pakistani government.
A Taliban spokesman based in the Swat Valley, to the east of Dir, claimed responsibility and said the four were in good health.
"Our aim is to hit the government's interests wherever they are. We kidnap everyone irrespective of whether he's Pakistani or Chinese and we'll continue to do this until they stop killing our people," the spokesman, Muslim Khan, said by telephone.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the government was seeking to clarify what happened.

Me thinks this was by Taliban direction due to China giving Russia the cold shoulder over Georgia. Russia is preparing to join Muslims in a war against the West.
The Chinese Pakistani relationship is decades old, warm and close.
But the increasing attacks on Chinese in Pakistan, combined with those of the Uighurs in Xinjiang and across China, some of whose training took place in ISIjihadi camps in Pakistan, must be causing the Chinese a momentary pause.
It’d be the height of irony if the Chinese were ever to do what neither the Indians or the Americans and NATO has done so far, destroy the jihad facitilies in Pakistani Kashmir!
I wonder if the Taliban will saw the chi-coms heads off. I’d be surprised cause the talian know the chi-coms won’t pussy foot around with this kind of crap. The chi-coms will not try to understand the plight of the taliban and will go after them and kill them quick.
Welcome to the party China! When you start acting like a world power you get all sorts of things like this. A word of advise; don’t pay these clowns or every Chinese National who sets foot out of China will become a kidnap victim.
Not a lot of terrorists kidnap Russians—ever wonder why? Maybe because they are mean mothers who will make you pay for acts like this.
I’ve said all along that if you do this type of crap your whole family should be offed. Your mom,dad, sister, brother, wife, husband, children, dog and cat.
And this terror crap would end very quickly.
But NOOOOOOO, instead we Americans have to play by some very inept international rules while the bad guys cut our heads off and fly planes in to our buildings.
